New Items - Elevate Pants & Energy SL Varsity Graphic (You've got to be kidding me)

Elevate Pants
The Elevate pants look interesting. I don't know if I am in the market for more casual pants but I would like to try them on to see what Tencel feels like.

Product Info:

  • Elevate your practice in this loose, flowy yogi pant
  • Made with light weight, wicking tencel silk
  • Made with 4 way stretch luon waistband can be worn as is or rolled down for a lower rise
  • Pockets to store $ & keys
  • Flat seamed for chafe resistance & comfort
  • Wear to all your hatha and yin classes

 Energy SL - Varsity Graphic
Words cannot express how much I dislike the thought of wearing banal slogans on my chest. What the heck, Lululemon? Are you shooting for the 15 year olds now? Do the Abercrombie/Hollister & Lululemon customer sets overlap a lot? I know it's a lot cheaper to plop some stupid phrase on a shirt than come up with a nice print, but come on. I'd much rather have a plain shirt than this. Awful, just awful - lame, cheap, derivative, juvenile, out of date (hasn't this been done to death for years by Abercrombie, Pink, and Chip & Pepper?). I thought never-ending pirate stripes and space dye were bad but this is a new low. When I look at the beautiful Aria tank from a few posts ago and then compare it to what is out now I get totally depressed.

I saw the Zen Wrap in a store last night. It was ok. A bit pricey at $118. The one I saw had a snag in it so be aware that it probably snags easily. It's 13% merino wool so there is no way I am buying this. I haven't worn wool since I left the east coast 15 years ago. I can only wear Feel Good pants a couple months of the year when it gets into the lower 60s.

Remix Lulu Light
I don't know if any of you saw it, but there was a post on Facebook that Remix Lights might be back in the stores towards the end of April. I love my two remix lights. I only hope they don't put them out in easter egg colors. I'm just not a fan of pastel jackets.  I certainly hope they don't start printing Lululemon University on their sweat jackets now that we have the 'varsity' Energy tank.

The varsity graphic tank is uuuugggggllllyyy! It definitely looks like its for 16 year olds and its does kind of have this immature Hollister/Abercrombie sense about it. DEFINITELY a pass for me. Is it just me or do the new Lululemon styles keep getting worse and worse? What is going on?

I think the elevate pants look like curtains....they are awful! The Zen wrap is a little appealing (as I live on the east coast!) but not for the price and I had also heard thta it easily snags. If I'm going to spend that kind of money, I'll buy the overpriced sway jacket! And I think the slogans are tacky....wouldn't wear it if it was free!

I am curious about the fabric of the elevate pants. Would not wear it for yoga but possibly to work on casual fridays.

Seriously, I think the designs lately are designed by stick thin small chested interns. They should stick to making real exercise gear and not street clothes. One or two pieces of streetwear is ok for a whole season but not abundance of it which most women in their mid twenties and above would not even wear. Stick to classics please, Lululemon.

Lame Lame lame -- if i wanted to look like my 12 year old daughter -- i'd wear her clothes -- they are a lot cheaper!!! LOL -- Cmon LULU get with it!!!

Wow, so much anger. Fashion is tough to please everyone. I agree that the graphics are very much like abercrombie, but maybe they've gotten feedback to try this out. Since, the company does run a lot by feedback, email them and let them know that this isn't what you like. I'm sure there was a valid reason for trying this out. Also, whenever someone talks about snags, I get annoyed because that type of fabric is very fragile and snags if you bought it from any company. Lastly, I thought this blog was about how you are OBSESSED with lululemon, and I LOVE reading your posts, but for the past few weeks even month, most of your posts have been negative. I'm obsessed with lululemon and LOVE most of their product, but not every piece is going to be perfect. Since, you are obsessed I would love hearing about the pieces that come out everyday that you do LOVE.

I agree...that tank is hideous. It's weird, but I haven't bought any Lulu for a couple of weeks now - this is not normal for me. I'm just not loving anything lately.

Luluaddict - you do a great job! Keep giving us your opinions and updates - they are very much appreciated. :)

Tried on the elevate pants...not for me. Nice fabric, low rise and very wide. Too wide for my short frame 5'5". They hugged my rear and then dropped straight from there. I need help in creating shape and these don't do it.

Don't like the graphic either...

My local store sent a product notification yesterday that along with new product pictures, announced the arrival of a beauty line...Body by Lululemon--

Our product may be moisture wicking, but how do you re-hydrate your skin..... the answer is here. We welcome the new Body by lululemon. Whether it is your daily, weekly, or monthly bath, let lululemon help with your cleanse. Not only are we launching our new Body line this week but we have some amazing essentials to help Spring fight off Winter!

Anon, the reason Lulu Addict has been negative lately is because at the moment, in her opinion...which is the premise behind blogging, there is not much to like...You don't have to agree with her but it is inappropriate to criticize her. This is her blog, her opinion, you may disagree with her and post your disagreement and your view, but if you are not happy with her opinion or her views then stop reading her blog.

BTW, there have been some items she likes recently, are you reading about those??

Anon : 5.24am - Posts have been negative because for what we are expect to pay, the designs have not been up to mark! Most of us Lulu fans have been giving feedback after feedback for nice prints, more technical tanks, functional jackets etc. but mostly we are not really heard. Why Lulu is straying in creating functional exercise gear is beyond me.

WoW -- i think anon might be a lulu employee-- perhaps she will take our gripes back to the design team!! The reason we all love this blog, I think is because she is so honest!! If you love it great -= if you don't or question quality or design -- IMO -- we have a right to gripe about it!!! THe latest stuff hasn't been up to par for the $, They are missing the technical gear that made people addicts!!!

The elevate pants remind me of the pants I've bought in the past from Young, Fabulous and Broke. Also, coincidentally, YFB called them wide, flowy pants "Zen pants". You can probably find links to it via google. From my experience, the YFB pants I have are not good for workouts..more for lounging and going out. I'm also not a fan of graphics..I used to have "juicy" tracksuits and I became a Lululemon fan because of their clean, beautiful pieces that were functional and stylish. I really hope they go back to their sportswear clothing, instead of making loungewear.

That Body By Lululemon thing sounds like an April Fool's Joke.

The graphic is horrible. It belongs at Ivivva, not lulu.

I love reading your blog, Luluaddict. Positive or negative. Keep telling it like it is.

I agree with all the comments that regard leaving honest feedback- very much appreciated. If you want to read all positives go to Lululemon's site blog.

I think that top is ok, but it looks like a VS Pink knockoff and probably costs x3 as much.

Luluaddict tells it like it is. If I buy a $118 sweater, it had better not snag! I'm really shocked about the number of people on the Lululemon fan page who are willing to keep paying high prices while bending over backwards to make sure their products don't fall apart (handwashing items individually so they don't bled on other things, air drying, making sure not to rub their luon on anything, even if it's just sitting or walking).. COME ON! I have Nike and Target pants that I wash and throw in the machine with no problems of bagging out or piling and they are so much cheaper. Lululemon seriously needs to address their declining quality issues, as well as their erratic pricing methods.

@anon5:24am - If you want to read about me loving Lululemon you'll have to go back to the early posts of this blog. The majority of them were about how I love this or that item. As many have expressed, many of the designs and prints of the recent months have been VERY dissapointing.

I agree with lulumom about Lululemon having beautfiul, understated, clean designs, not cluttered with slogans or words but showcasing great design, beautiful prints, great colors. What was cute about those prints is that they had "hidden" lululemon logos on them - discreet but kind of an inside joke. I'll do a post on them soon. A lot of women like discreet logos, otherwise it's tacky.

What kills me about the varsity graphic is that it's so old - so done - so 6 years ago. Lululemon should be making fashion in athletic wear not following it. They really need some new, experienced, professional designers or hire back whoever used to design for them a couple of years ago.

it's funny, I actually don't like prints and patterns at all-I'd never wear even the ones that you love from yester-year...just goes to show that everyone loves different things, everyone has their own opinions (love or hate), and should be able to express them.

I work for Lulu, and while there are pieces that I love, there's also pieces that I, well, don't. And I'm never shy about expressing said opinion, so I don't think luluaddict should be either. You can't please everyone-there'll always be people that love or hate everything, but you shouldn't be chastised for not loving something.

Keep up with the blunt opinions..I'm a fan of being honest and blunt as well.

On a technical note-remember, it does take anywhere from a year to a year and a half from the beginning of the design process to when we actually see product in the stores.. so just because you don't see your suggestions coming to fruition in the next few months, does not mean they're not hearing you, or acting on your feedback. (ie: right now, they're just starting to design summer and fall 2011 )

I wanted to comment about the remix light. I saw it on the website about a week ago and was thinking of getting on. Then they were gone. My gym actually sells LuLu but I do my purchasing at the local store 10 min. from my house. They have a Fruity Tootie in my size. I am thinking of getting it. I do love pink and like the lighter material. It's so hard to think of waiting to see what comes out later this month and then they might be pastel colors like Luluaddict mentioned. Do you think I should get the hoodie now? I'm afraid someone else might buy it and there is only one in my size. Thx for the advice.

Your blog is fabulous, I read all of your posts. Keep up the great work!!

I originally thought the varsity graphic tank was an April Fools joke.

Sadly no.

However, if it does sell poorly hopefully they will take that info and learn from it.

The problem is... if the design process has a 12 to 18 month discrepancy between the design and release of an item (as a previous LULU employee stated), then how does feedback really help? If an item "bombs" does LULU yell "Stop production!" over to China and hopes someone hears? I'm obviously being sarcastic but that is perhaps why space dye never seems to die...

Pattybea said...

CJRun- You are probably right about Body by Lululemon being an April Foool's joke...It didn't occur to me since I received it on March 31...

Though part of me thought--if true, could be why lulu is not as creative as usual...too busy expanding and growing

Love your blog luluaddict. @anon 5:24am, if you want to drink lululemon koolaid there are plenty of die-hards on the FB page.
I like lululemon, but I am still going to expect the best for my money. There is a decline in quality and a lack of prints/interesting designs/colour variety lately. Lululemon needs to get feedback-positive and constructive to excel, and your comment was a little mousy being anonymous and all... maybe you work for lululemon?

The writing style of "anon" reminds me of Elim, it has her condenscending tone.

Lulu loving IT girl said...

Anon @ 6:25pm, thats not nice to say. It might not be Elim.

I'm from Ontario, Canada and I've noticed that most women (from 20 to 50 years old) in my gym do not wear a lot of patterns or prints. And those who do, are usually the older fuddy duddy ladies or the young teens. Strange but it maybe a regional or cultural thing. I don't own any patterned or printed tanks or tops. The closest tank I have that is not a solid would be the expression organic tank in lolo purple dye that I use for yoga. I haven't found anything that doesn't look too busy for me. I prefer classic style in solid colours. But that doesn't mean I'm not open to trendier styles. And space dye is not a trendy style for me.

I also don't like the Abercrombie look ... Screaming advertising on my chest.

I was going to say Elim too, but you beat me to it. She has a superiority complex about her that is unbelievable considering all of the glaring mistakes that she has made, both on the Lulu blog and the Facebook page.
She is one of the few educators that is unwilling to search for product in Lulu's "secondary warehouses" (stores)-I've called on different occasions and had the luck of getting her and she is snooty over the phone too.

Luluaddict, I agree that the Varsity Graphic is juvenile and overdone. That look has been beat to death by Old Navy, PINK, Abercrombie, Aeropostale, and all those other teenie-bopper places. That look is not fashion-forward at all. I personally dislike how they design those kinds of tops to look like they came from a thrift store, with the use of certain fonts and such. If I'm going to shell out the big bucks for a nice tank, I don't want it to look vintage-y or DIY (see how the neckline cuts into the graphic? That looks sloppy to me).

On the other hand, the Elevate pants look FAB. I hope my local Lulu gets them. I love my Jesus Pants to bits because of their long, flowing legs; I am hoping that the Elevate pants fit similarly.

Was in Phoenix this week over spring break and saw the elevate pants. Nothing one could actually work out in. They feel like that "washable silk" material. I had no desire to try them on. The varsity graphic tank is fine with me. I mean at least it is something lulu hasn't done before (I kinda like it).

The elevate pants are great! They are sooo comfy and adorable. The only bad part is the price. I would wear them all the time if i had them. They can be dressed up or down.
