OT - Athleta to open a brick and motor store (in Northern California)

Athleta is going to open a test store in Northern California. I'm kind of excited and hope they open one in Southern California. I always see a lot of cute stuff in the Athleta catalog - a lot of their Apres stuff looks so comfortable and yoga-mommish - but I hate buying clothes without trying them on/feeling them and I hate to pay for shipping. I am also hoping their store markdown prices will be lower than their catalog markdowns which are ok but not spectacular. Ahtleta also carries a really nice bra collection so I am excited to be able to try on the more supportive bras.

I too would like to see how that store does. If it does well, maybe they'll open more! I get their catalogs because Ii had ordered something from them a while ago, but I decided to return it because, like you mentioned, I wasn't sure how it'd fit on me. I always see such cute things in their catalog but resist the urge to buy because I'd like to be able to try them on. Do you happen to know where in northern cal that they're opening this store?

This is very interesting because I just read this article about their stock which talks about both athleta and lucy --

I think competition is great -- maybe we can see the old lulu make a comeback in the face of some direct competition --

The store is supposed to be in Mill Valley in the Strawberry Village Center. It's supposed to open at the end of May.

I've gotten some very cute items from Athleta: I don't care for their workout clothing because the designs don't stand up to lulu but I own quite a few swimsuits and casual clothing: dresses, pants, skirts, tops. It sure would be nice to try things on because I have also had to do returns on some of my purchases and I hate paying return shipping.

Interesting article posted by Momof5. Lets hope Lulu bucks up and comes up with more functional technical clothing that suits the majority of women. Here's hoping that they bring back some classic staples. I am still not seeing what the new designers from Lulu have brought to the table. Or is what Lulu currently designed by the new designers. Who knows..

I had seen that article momof5 posted. It is interesting - especially the gross margin part. The Lululemon next quarterly report is due out June 10th. I wonder if their revenues/profits will be as high as last quarter. There have been a lot of markdowns at my stores and a lot of the stores on Facebook are mentioning all their markdowns to entice people into the stores. Although, I do think the designs/coordinating pieces have been getting better lately - the zoom stuff and half moon stuff.

I love Athleta's swimwear...I've owned numerous suits from them. They make suits for people with big boobs AND a long torso...ME ;-).

They have a wrap jacket on the site that strongly resembles the old Savasana Wrap which I have been looking for everywhere! Yet, it has a zipper and also looks pretty short :S I wish it was longer and snap up... :(

@pilatesmom -- I love athletas summer dresses especially the ones that incorporate the cups -- I also like the sandals and accessories they have - -- their only drawback is the shipping costs and cost of returns --

OT -- does anyone remember the name of the lulu running skirt that had the pleated detailing at the butt ---i saw it on a woman this weekend and it was so stinking cute --don't know how i missed it ---

@anon:
I ordered the shorter/savasana wrap looking athleta jacket and returned it -- too short. The propotions didn't work for me at all.

@momof5:
If you're a gap silver credit card holder (I am) you get free shipping no minimum order on all gap brand websites including athleta.

I've ordered a couple things from athleta before, on sale, but didn't find the right size/style for me. I haven't given up yet though.

A little concern with their product knowledge though - I emailed them once about what size tank top with bra cups I should order as I'm a 32D, and that size wasn't an option. They suggested 34D, which made no sense to me though as a 34D would fit someone with a 38" bust, which I do not have. They also referred me to the size chart on the product page, which listed S/M/L sizing for a product with bra sizes, which was obviously not very helpful.

I do want to give their bathing suits a shot.
