Minor Website Rant (Again)

So, does anyone actually look at the photos Lululemon throws up on the web? This is your face to the world, yet you are putting photos like these up there:

Aren't these shorts too tight? They are pulling in the front and hugging the thighs. These look like they would bunch up as I moved in them.

Shouldn't they fit more like this? Pretty much every jogger I see wearing these style shorts wears them like this:

You also use too extreme an angle in the model poses. For instance, the Inspire pullover has some great seams in the back that give the illusion of a narrow waist. You would never know it from a photos like this,

I know I made fun of you for using the deadly-dull firing squad pose:

but something a little more natural (and sassy) like shown below would be a lot more helpful to get an idea of what the clothing looks like. We're not going to be approaching people at 30 degree angles when we wear our Lululemon. We need to know how it looks in a face-on and back view.

Thanks for listening.

I was told in a new York store that the run inspire pullover wasn't coming out in solid black! :(

I'm not in love with the Inspire so I won't be heartbroken if it doesn't come out again. I definitely think there will be more batches of running luon pullovers in the future. Last year they released the stripey Hills Pullovers, then a batch of solid colored Energy Pullovers, then a batch of solid colored Hills Pullovers then a batch of Energy with contrasting panels on them. I'm 99% confident there are more running pullover in the future.

i got the lolo today and put together a whole "marathon" outfit for my first one next month. i really love the color of the senorita, however, i think i will regret getting 2 when something else comes out this winter.

Ugh - Im with you - the horrible fit in some of the photos makes me crazy. I find that often people seem to go for a 'size down' when they dont need to or shouldnt if they expect the item to be functional. I have actually had a non-runner Lulu employee say that I should definetly go for the 4 in the shorts, when a 6 was perfect for actually running. She said the 4 is the way they are supposed to fit. 'Supposed to fit'?? like a total mess of wadded up sausage wrapper stuck between my legs for 21km?? no thanks. Nothing makes a gal look less slender anf fit than gear that is too tight. Major fail lulu, major.
whew...I feel better! Thanks! :)

Yeah...looks like a very fit model, but clearly the shorter liner is too tight. Did the model refuse to wear a size up? I feel like they have so many people working for the company you could find someone the short looks good on.

Mrs.Jensen- funny!

I think a lot of people (not just the models) wear their lulu at least 1 size too small...no one cares what size it is just keep your muffin top under wraps, PLEASE!!

Colorado Pilates Teacher said...

Yes yes yes, I agree!!! Will anthropologists 50 years from now look back and wonder why on earth an entire segment of the population insisted on encasing themselves, sausage-like, in too-tight clothes? And the "muffin sausage" look can happen on anyone of any size/height, IF the clothes are simply too small and digging into flesh. It's not attractive. Go a size up for a flattering look, and spare us all! :)

The director of Ecomm was on the Facebook page as achieving her goal of losing 125 lbs. While that is a fantastic goal to achieve I believe her next goal should be...actually participating in her job: The same mistakes that were being made on day one of the website are being made today (hello editing?? )...wrong images, bad camera angles, "Why We Made This" left blank (because we didn't have a clue????), colors being misrepresented, simple aspects of product such as inseam length left off, the list goes on...WTF????

LuluAddict said...

@houndlvr - "participating in her job" - too funny - and true!

I agree - so many of the educators have on a size too small in the facebook photos we've seen. For the most part, the website models seem to have on the correct size but not in the case of these Groovy Run shorts.

I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw the shorts this morning! The Groovy Run Shorts are my favorite precisely because they don't fit like that!

I have to chime in on this one. I hate it when I go to the store and I see an educator who is clearly 20lb heavier than I wearing one to two sizes smaller than I and then she tells me that everything looks great..How am I supposed to respond to that without telling her that I wouldn't trust her opinion because she cannot dress herself???

I have another website complaint- I ordered the savasana wrap when it was put on the website a few weeks ago and when I checked out, I realized they charged me too much tax. I live in New York state where sales tax on clothing shipped in from out of state is 4% (it's going up to 8% on October 1). However, lulu is currently charging 8% sales tax on NY orders. I made multiple calls to GEC with mysteriously no response and sent a few irate emails. Finally yesterday I received an email stating that my account was being credited with the $4 they owed me.

It's ridiculous that they can't even calculate sales tax correctly! When you spend as much money at lulu as I know many people do, the tax really adds up! Everyone please check your orders and local sales tax to make sure that you're not being overcharged.

Check out the wish blue crb model. Did they stretch her?

LuluAddict said...

@ canadian eh - lol. The lolo and river rock short sleeve swiftly tee look the same way. The model must have a short torso or just wear the clothes weirdly.

I went to my local store today pick up my pullovers. I ended up getting the Run: Cross Train Crop. I love them. I am short so they are the perfect length for me. They are so similar to the Run: Zoom Crop just without rouching. I also got the SS Swiftly in Lolo, I love it. I ended up buying 3 Inspire Pullovers: Black, Lolo & senorita Pink. I think 2 are going back. I am not a big fan of the static print. Someone mentioned in another post it was like Space Dye print and I feel the same way. I have two of the CRB's in the print and I think that's enough. I don't have any running luon and was so excited to get it but I have a feeling some solids are coming or something better that I will absolutely love. They are comfortable though. Now I have to decide which one I'll keep, if any.

Luluaddict, I was the person who pointed out the black Groovy Run Shorts photo the other day to you so I am so HAPPY that you are ranting about this. Their photos are a bit sad...I'm shocked that they aren't better organized with the website. Another screw up - to many's delight - is the pricing mistakes. The scuba, the Lolo define - I wonder how many went through before they caught it. They probably found out on facebook when all the regulars were telling eachother and even then it probably took a couple of hours to address.

Don't get me wrong, I am a luluaddict myself, but they are not representing themselves well - they need to strive for excellence, not mediocracy.

LuluAddict said...

@ Anon - The pricing mistake with the lolo Define went on for over 24 hours. I think people were smarter about not mentioning it on Facebook this time but I didn't scroll through all the posts. I only saw it mentioned here. Unfortunately, the $29 Scuba hoodie only lasted 10 or 15 minutes. I'm sure there will be future screw ups. I hope it's on something I want. ;-)

I was going through old pics and the grey one on this model looks very unflattering on her:

All the lulu run shorts I've ever bought have had to be purchased a size or 2 up from my regular groove pant size. I think the model is having that problem. How they are shown there is not conducive of how you would need them to fit for function during a run.

While it's nice to see that the Groovy Run Short model has more muscular legs than the other models, she is definetly wearing the wrong size. Or, it may just not be the right style for her body - something like the tracker short or roll down short, which are roomier, probably would have looked much better.
