Need a Recommendation for New Bottoms For Spin Class

My beloved Passion crops, which I wear to spin class once or twice a week since I bought them a year ago, have developed pin holes where my legs rub on the saddle. I am totally depressed. I guess the feature that makes them so awesome for a stuffy spin room, the lightweight breathable luxtreme, is also it's downfall - it's just not durable enough to be used for cycling. I may switch back to using regular luon pants. My Hills crops which are luxtreme in the front of the leg and luon on the backside have no issues at all. I am also going to look into some other cycling brands. I am thinking of these Shebeest cycling crops:

Shebeest Shindigger Crops

If anyone has any other brands they like to use in spin class I'd be happy to hear it. I don't need a padded pair of cycling shorts but it seems that's the way most of them come.

HELLOOO, ughh I LOVE YOUR BLOG.

So glad I found it.

I went there today after a hiatus that was necessary, and saw the Flashback pullover..the sequel? It's the same style and everything, I found it runs at least 2 sizes too big, and there was a new colour. Not on the website, but in stores, and very nice. It's like a speckled creamy white/offwhite.

Amy :)

For biking crops, you could try the Terry brand. They make great woman's specific cycling gear and I have had great luck with their crops. Good luck!

I'm so glad you asked this question! I'm desperate to find new cute spin bottoms. I do wear regular Luon and it's sooo hot!! Lulu needs to make more Spin gear. I'd feel a bit silly wearing anything that was too " cycle":)

Hi Luluaddict: I wear the Terry T Short (long)

http://www.terrybicycles.com/Apparel/Cycling-Bottoms/T-Short-Long

which I really love - very comfortable and flattering. It does have a chamois, but think that Terry may make a spin short, or at least one with minimal padding.

On my bike i wear a "tri short" it has less of a shammy than the typical riding shorts and you can wear them running or cycling. I really like the De Soto brand - Carrera style (tried the forza style and do not like them). Of course i always wear a lulu tank/top with them ;)

STAY AWAY FROM LULULEMON CROPS & PANTS they are crap quality these days!

Have you read the reviews online about the In Stride Jacket fraying at the seams? The quality bug is hitting everything they make.

i've used under armour shorts for spin class and they've held up for YEARS. i wear these:

http://www.underarmour.com/shop/us/en/womens/pid1001126-Women-s-Ultra-4-Compression-Short/1001126-600

but if you wanted more coverage they have a 7-inch inseam variety, or i'm sure something like this would work just as well:

http://www.underarmour.com/shop/us/en/womens/pid1219785-Women-s-HeatGear-174-Touch-Short/1219785-001

they are maybe not quite as cute as lululemon but they are very functional and you can brighten them up with a variety of lulu tops!

I've worn the Pearl Izumi Sugar shorts and crops. They are padded, but I swear by them.

Ditto the Under Armour compression shorts. I have a similar pair also by Nike's compression line and they've both held up for weekly spin classes for the last 3 years. The Under Armour logo I could do without, but like a previous commentator said, just pair it with cute tops and you're all set to go.

@Amy, where did you see the Flashback Pullover? I want one so bad and I think that it is unlikely that my store here in FL will get them.

I'm a spinning instructor and almost always wear Wunder Under crops when I teach and take classes. They fit the same as lulu's running crops, but the luon is a little thicker. The thickness won't make them too hot and luon is not as slippery on the saddle as luxtreme. Hope this helps.

Hi! I'm a Spinning instructor too, and I wear a mid-thigh short from Moving Comfort (they have different lengths). They are sold as compression shorts for running, and I bought them from my local women's running store. They don't ride up or chafe (on me). I've been wearing them for over two years and the fabric hes held up beautifully! They have more of a mid rise, so no tummy or muffin top. I used to wear some crops from Lucy, but they pilled horribly from rubbing on the seat. I refuse to buy their pants anymore. Highly recommend Moving Comfort!

Oh, and they are totally reasonably priced, $30! If you search their website, they are the 'MCW Compression short". Good luck! Keep Spinning! :)

I wear wunder under crops to spin and don't find them too hot. I did just buy the Get Fit Short and am excited to try them at spin and hot yoga this week. I love the length -- they come just above my knee -- and are pretty flattering considering they are a biker short.

Thank you so much for all the suggestions! I will definitely look into these.

As a Latin Hip Hop & spin instructor I HIGHLY second the Under Armour Brand. I honestly must say I do not think Lulu makes the best bottoms for what I do--but the TOPS are amazing. I always have Under Armour bottoms and LULU tops on while I teach--NEVER had a issue with UA. Some of my UA are 3yrs old and still look great!

They aren't crap quality at all. In fact they have only been improving. The only reason the stride jacket was fraying on the sleeves was because they moved the zipper pocket placement and changed the type of zipper and it was rubbing against the arms. That was just a design flaw they said and my lulu replaced my jacket with something else.

@ anon 6:30 pm - Lululeon quality has not been improving - it's been going downhill for nearly two years now. Lululemon is having a ton of continuing quality issues. I'm reading about runs in wunder unders, rubber ducky cabin long sleeves that are falling apart, and it's been several releases and the Strides and new In Strides are still fraying. The Speed Up Tank in Purple Crush was yanked off the website within a day of it being released because of color consistency issues and the Concord Grape Distance Pullover was pulled out of stores because the circle mesh in the armpits was falling apart. Long time buyers of Lululemon have noticed a decline in the quality. I really love Lululemon's designs but they need to get their quality act together.

I too am always looking for good bottoms to wear to spin and also often reach for my Passion crops. Today after I read Luluaddict's post I inspected them and no holes, thank goodness! I am planning to try some of the suggestions other readers offered. I happened to be at REI today and tried on the Shebeest Shindiggers and they were a pass for me. The waist didn't feel supportive enough and the fabric was a little too stiff and thick for my taste.

I ended up getting some shorts from Moving Comfort out of their sale section on line. They seem nice for the price and they fit well.

I tried the Under Armour heat gear compression crops but they kept sliding down. I would have tried the next size down but they didn't have it.

I tried the Shebeest crops on at REI this weekend but the padding overkill for an hour long spin class.

I'm still on the lookout for other brands, too.
