My Husband - Lulu Newb

I will do some posts on the upload that happened early this morning and the new items that are coming out but first I have to tell a story that will be amusing to long time lulu fans. My husband is a super early riser - he's often up before 5 am most days of the week - and he told me he ordered the new Sapphire blue Run: Response shorts early this morning. They were sold out in his size as of about 10 am pacific time and I mentioned that to him. He said "what'd they do, upload only one?" which I found amusing since I've read that soooo many times in the comments and on the lulu Facebook boards. He then went on to tell me that he got an order confirmation but I had to break it to him that that didn't mean anything until he got a shipping confirmation email. Poor lulu newb.

(Update - As of 2 pm PST the shorts are sold out in all sizes except XL now on the US side. Wow! If you all are getting them as gifts for your SOs I think they will be very happy.)

Awww! Still so innocent and naive. :) just give him a few canceled orders and he will be just like the rest of us!

I've heard that mens is less than 15% of their total business... I wonder if 1) Lululemon is actually making an effort to develop this business (it sounds like they're not) 2) men are drawn to the brand as much as women. The main reason I buy Lululemon is because of the fit, particularly when i look at my rear end in the mirror ;)... my hubby appreciates it too (on me), but not so much for himself. I'm ondering what they can do to make more appealing clothes for men (that's sexy too, so I'm admiring the guys too).

Yes, I've heard it's around 12% (mens penetration). I think you have to look at Mens and Womens as separate businesses, sounds obvious but what works for women (i.e. re your comment of flattering butt), doesn't necessarily mean men will flock to a Groove Pant for Him (LOL). What I've found is there is very little for Men that is actually for yoga, mostly baggy and long shorts that are comfortable enough for basketball or a trip to Starbucks. I'd love to see more sport-specific apparel (i.e. spinning, yoga/pilates) that would draw my hubby to shop vs. Nike.

I think the main problem is that men usually aren't willing to pay Lululemon's ridiculously high prices for athletic attire. I got my boyfriend a pair of Lulu compression shorts that he LOVES - but he said he would have never spent the money for them himself. If Lulu had some products for men that were targeted towards specific activities instead of just running/crossfit then maybe men would be more willing to spend the money.

Women, on the other hand, don't care how much clothing costs when it is as cute as the Lululemon items!!!

Poor guy, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't get what they wanted from today's upload.

@ yogibabe - LOL

I think you are right about the percentage of the mens line business. I believe it has been more successful in the US than Canada because lulu was primarily a women's brand there for years so there is a stigma that the US doesn't have. I think it was mentioned in the last conference call that lulu had a new mens designer so they are working on growing the business. What really resonated the most with my husband re: lulu was nothing I said about it but that pro golfer Ryan Moore wore the brand. Like you said a lot of men balk at the price. However, one area my husband has to open the wallet a little is for golf clothes that meet dress codes at nicer course. Lulu should really exploit the golf niche for men. That is the primary reason my husband bought the Work to Play pants and the Kahuna shorts - for golf. He does like the Run: Responses for the gym and running, though.

my husband would not wear a brand that has "lulu" or "lemon" in the brand name (but yes to words like "armour").

Put a Abercrombie model with washboard abs in a pair of tight, bulging sexy shorts... and that'll bring some attention to the mens line. Right now, there's nothing appealing or vaguely sexy about anything when you shop mens. My hubby has a great body, and i wouldn't mind him showing it off... but nothing fits him close to the body.

While checking the new upload today, I spotted a Run For it Pullover in Currant in my size (there were apparently only two sizes avaialble), so I rushed to complete my purchase. As soon as I did, the size I got was gone from the site. I'm hoping I got the last one or the only one that was uploaded today. I also got a order confirmation, so let's wait and see if it actually gets shipped. This pullover in currant is now on ebay for about $200. I can't believe these people!

I buy lulu for my husband, he's unaware of names and prices, and since it does not say it anywhere (thanks for the logo only lulu) on the item, he's very happy with the feel and quality of them.
