SCOOP!!! Lulu Swimline (Tri-line?) Coming!!!

A reader writes in to tell me lulu is coming out with a swim wear line. I'm not sure if this is geared towards triathletes like their swim line a few years ago or just for swimming/lounging. I remember trying on the Fastlane suit in the photo above. It was pretty obscene on my 36DD chest. I am cautiously optimistic, however, and can't wait to see what they come up with.

That woman is petite and it doesn't even look flattering on her - make her look very wide and flat and I'm sure she has a nice figure in regular clothes

that is a horrible swim suit! while you're at it, lulu, please make the swim suit bleed so we can all be swimming in a CLOUD of ink while in the pool, or leave pretty designs on our towel-covered chaises. Also, could you heather the swimsuit - I still haven't gotten enough heathering. And it would be great if it cost $198. worth every penny!

Oooh I'd be pretty excited to see some colourful Lulu tri gear come out! I hope it's better than last year's cycling gear though.. I was so surprised at the half-assed effort on that one. Anyone who has seen cycling apparel knows that most cyclists gravitate towards bright colourful patterns - so I don't understand why Lulu came out with plain, boring black & white jerseys. I hope this time there's some colour.

Also- I hope that swim suit in the picture isn't supposed to be a tri suit... 2 minutes of vigorous swimming in open water would have that woman arrested for indecent exposure, cause there's no way the girls would be contained in that tiny suit.

I'd *love* to see tri gear come back! I actually have two pairs of their tri shorts from 2-3 years ago and still use them in training.

I have a gorgeous blue lulu bikini that my bf loves on me. Bought it about 4 years ago. Regular triangle bikini for lounging, just really comfy and well built.

I would love to see a Lulu line of swimwear, and not just for tri-athletes (as I'm not one). If anyone at Lulu is reading this please make us girls some stylish and practical swimwear (i.e. bikinis that stay put and one-pieces that flatter) Does anyone remember when Lulu made flip flops? They were really cute and I'm sorry I didn't scoop a couple of pairs at the time.

I am hoping for something really cute but practical for the beach with my two little kids! I have high hopes riding on the swimwear line.

@ RunItMyWay - I'll have to dig up the post where some anonymous employee responded my comments that making cycling clothes in grays and pale pinks wasn't very safe. They said that studies have shown that bright colors don't matter and motorists will see cyclists if they are expecting to see them (i.e., I guess if there is a dedicated bike lane).' Yeah, that's why cops and highway workers wear gray vests when they stand on the road. As a person who has done some road cycling and a century ride in the distant past, I half to say I'd rather tip the odds in my favor and make my clothes as bright as possible. However, I think lulu was designing for the urban commuter who would probably rather look chic than worry about getting hit by a car.

Found it-

It was under this post -

Perhaps they don't make super bright cycling tops because the cognitive psych research (see: The Invisible Gorilla book) indicates that brightness doesn't make the crucial difference in "noticing" cyclists - what matters is people expecting to see cyclists and thus being on the look out for them...the cities in which the most number of people walk/bike (and thus drivers expect to see them)have the lowest rates of accidents...so Lululemon can make blah cycling colors so long as they ship most of them to Amsterdam and stay far far away from car-choked LA :)

OT - I was at the San Antonio store yesterday and wanted to pick up some Still pants on markdown. I meant to at the Austin store last week (ALL their Still pants were on markdown) but didn't have time. So I'm looking at the markdown rack, and the girl asks if I'm looking for anything particular. I said "yeah, I was hoping you'd have some Still pants in my size." She said "oh, all the Still pants are over here"... and leads me to the regular priced pants section. She pulls out a pair in my size (8 Tall, fyi :), I take a look at the tag, and as clear as day, you can see where the markdown sticker was pulled off, so it's back to being priced at $98. I said to the girl, "oh, so they're not marked down anymore?" and she looks at me with a cocked eyebrow, like I'm crazy, such as "how dare you want to pay $69 for these pants, which you could have last week, but now we want to charge you $98 again." I politely handed the pants back to her, said "no thank you", and walked out. Seriously. What the junk is that about? I am loving the grey ones I got online two weeks ago for $59, but no such luck on a pair of black ones. Rude.

@ anon 12:28 pm - It's weird. They'll often move stuff on and off markdown. It's probably to train us into getting something on the spot. I would keep checking the stack of Still pants every time I visit the store to see if they don't quietly go back on markdown, particularly in older/not so popular colors like Wren. I've scooped up deals like that before - digging through the stacks.

Haha, I like the idea... But there is no way I would wear that particular bathing suit! I hope they have more ideas and styles...!!

LOL @ anon 9:58 - True, maybe they should work on quality issues before starting a whole new line.

On the topic of markdown.... can someone please explain what it means when I pick up something at my store and it has a Lulu logo sticker over the price? But its not on the MD rack. Sometimes there are little Smiley stickers obscuring the price. Is it to hide the fact that the same item is in Loot online? It feels deceitful. I.picked up groove shorts off the rack that had a sticker and they rang up full price. Wtf???

OT - My latest lulu order took 8 days to arrive. It used to be 6 days, then became 7 days, now 8. So frustrating!

Same problem as OT above...last 2 lulu orders took over 9 days to arrive. Annoying.

That swim suit is super cute! I do love the v-neck, and I have done a lot of swimming in v-neck cut suits before. I'm pretty busty and it has worked for me, although I know it won't work for everyone. A low cut scoop neck style in the front would work!

Wow, those pricing gymnastics are shady. I thought all our markdown stuff went to Chicago. Maybe it's all back in the regular racks.

But not those harem pants. Snort.

When I purchase a gift & indicate I want a gift receipt, they cover up the price with a lulu symbol sticker. So, if someone received an item as a gift and returned it, it could end up back on the shelf with the sticker still on.

This photo shows quite possibly the ugliest swimsuit I have EVER seen.

jade said...

Exactlt what anon @442pm says. They put stickers on items that are given as gifts but if they are returned, sometimes the sticker is still left on.

Anon 12:28~ I have to defend my San Antonio store girls~ I see them weekly at least and send all of my clients to them and I have never, ever had one of those girls be rude. What goes on and off markdown is clearly not controlled at store level.

Anonymous said...

I thought each store controlled their own markdowns?? One of my local stores is famous for ALWAYS changing markdown prices - from day to day. One day a tank is on sale for $29, next day, same tank is on "sale" for $39.

Anon 6:01pm, I wasn't calling the store girl rude, I was calling the situation rude. I'm in the Austin store weekly and the San Antonio store about every two weeks, so no need to get defensive. I have educated some of them before ("no, actually the Relaxed Fit pants don't come in a Tall length"), and had one come visit my CrossFit class today and try to talk to me about the "new" Wunder Groove Crops during the warm-up, while the coach was talking. As for the sticker sitch, no, it wasn't a lulu symbol sticker because the item was a returned gift. It was clearly one of the little rectangle "final sale" stickers that had been place an inch above the original price. I will be going to the Austin store tomorrow to hopefully get my black Still pants on markdown. Hopefully, that is. :)

LuluAddict- just seeing your response now somehow! The Lulu response seems silly- there's tons of research showing that brightly coloured cars like yellow and red are less likely to be involved in collisions - probably because they're more visible. I would think the same would apply to cyclists (and the roadside workers - haha maybe Lulu should pitch it to the Dept of Transport they start wearing grey and camo-coloured vests if it doesn't make them more visible.. haha nice)

There's a function issue there - but also aesthetic! White and black cycling jerseys are just BORING. It's the reason I passed on them.. Instead I spent MORE on a Sugoi jersey because it was bright and fun coloured. Lulu must be aware by now that the items that sell out the fastest are the coloured items- it's always the plain black and white tanks left over and on the sale racks (that and those ridiculous harem crops. WHY do they keep making them?!)
