Today's Shopping Trip

I got to try a bunch of the new stuff on at the store today. One surprise was that I ended up going home with the Sun Runner SS in white. I've been thinking about getting an SPF top since I am getting sunburned when I am on my runs. My store had the Blush Quartz and White Run in the Sun longsleeve tops on markdown to something like $54. I was tempted but they are so long and seem like they'd be really hot for this time of year. They are also kind of see-through and cling to my mommy tummy. The Sun Runner is very loose fitting so isn't nearly as revealing as the Run in the Sun, even in the white. I like that the bottom three or so inches are mesh since the area where my tank overlaps the top of my running shorts gets hot due to the double layer. I like the open armpit even though I am going to have to get used to the idea of exposing my bra there but I didn't think it was that bad. The sleeves hit me in a similar spot to the woman in the second photo - towards my elbow, covering the most vulnerable part of my arm. I'm not particularly long between my waist and shoulder so this top ended at about my hip bones. I did not size down in it because it would have been too clingy. I think the open bottom and armpit will make this a really breezy top for running. I asked if any of the educators had tried the shirt yet and they said one girl had run in it and loved it. There is one review on the website and the woman loved hers. I am really looking forward to trying this out. I will update you on how it performs.

I also bought the lilac High Noon Dot Cool Racerback. I like how the purple looks with my run tan and the High Noon print has totally grown on me. I think I am done with dots now.

Other items I tried on/saw:
  • Tie and Fly tank - I thought it was a roomy true to size. It's ok but I didn't love it.
  • Bruised Berry Define Jacket - so gorgeous. I am sorely tempted to get this when I return the shorts.
  • Diversity Wunder Unders - very comfy but long. I'd definitely have to have them hemmed. I tried on the heathered charcoal. If you find regular luon ones hot for summer give these a try.
  • The Flash Light CRB, Define, and In Stride jackets. The CRB looked nice with my tan but the color glows.
  • I saw the new Astro Wunder Unders and the purple ones are Grapeseed/Lilac. Lulu must be getting rid of left over material. I don't think they've ever done this before. They used to make headbands from their scraps. I would have to stalk the stores for months to years to get the matching headband for prints and colors. They are much better about simultaneously releasing matching headbands these days.
  • Fashion Island had a healthy markdown rack and I was able to take care of some Christmas and Father's Day shopping. They had a number of swiftly tees on markdown to $39. The Meditate Pullovers were on MD, May Wee Space Stride Jacket were $20 off and they had several sizes. They had a couple of 38D Ta Ta Tamers for $39. There was a bunch of other stuff but I am blanking on it.

The website says these are medium rise but the tag (and measurements) says otherwise.

I received my Dart and Dash shorts but don't really like them. I guess I should have paid attention to the description when it said low rise.  Not my mistake after all - the website description says the shorts are medium rise. However, the tag says low rise. The above photo compares the Dart and Dash to my favorite Take Flight Bike Shorts. I made some measurement comparisons (both are size 12):

                                         Dart & Dash                             Take Flight
Front rise:                              7"                                             9"
Rear Rise:                           9.5"                                            11"
Inseam:                                  6"                                         7.75"
Waist to leg opening:           12" front                                   15"
                                             14" rear                                     17"

I overlayed a pair of Reverse Groove shorts on the Dart and Dash and they are basically identical. Reverse Grooves have a slightly higher front rise - 8.25" but the rear is similar to the Dart and Dash. I really don't care for the low rise of the Dart and Dash so they will be going back. The lower rear rise means it won't work very well for spin class, either. I read the lululemon quarterly conference call transcript and they said there will be a spin and cycling capsule coming in August so maybe the Take Flights will come back or they'll put out another pair of luxtreme shorts with a higher rise.

Hi, which Lululemon store would have the markdowns you mentioned? Thanks!

Anonymous said...

No "some like it hot" crops??? Dying to know more about those.

Anonymous said...

Ive heard people say the bruised berry is purple but it looks more bluish in photos. What color would you say?

Why doesn't Lululemon make tights for men?

OT question about lulu's return policy if you order online. If an item is ordered online, is it 14 days from the order date (bad for me because it takes a week for me to receive an order), or 14 days from the day the item is delivered/received? Thank you.

OT-Some items restocked, including Ebb&Flow crop all sizes in Black and some in Deep Indigo!

You know, I swear to goodness that when they first put up the Dart and Dash shorts they either called them medium rise or didn't list a hem sweep (I think that as the case). I bought them and NEVER buy things that are low rise (and I always check)--looks like these are going to go back!

Anyway, my way of saying LLA, I don't think you forgot to check--I just think it wasn't there!

Anon 4.06am - Lulu does make running thights for men usually in the winter. There are tons in the Woodbury Commons outlet in New York.

EBB & FLOW CROP BACK IN STOCK ALL COLORS AND SIZES!! WOOHOO. I JUST ORDERED 2 PAIRS OF BLACK. LOVE THESE!

Anonymous said...

You know, I'm wondering if the Ebb & Flows were really restocked...or if they just had THAT many returns because they are SO see through!!

Anonymous said...

You know what...on the website it still has the Dart and Dash shorts listed as medium rise in the tech specs!!! No wonder you (and I) were confused!

From personal experience, I had to return mine because they were so sheer! I stupidly ordered a size down because my others were big in the waist. When they came, I thought, ohhhh these feel much better. Then, I bent over. You know the rest. Lol!

Re: Anonymous... I tried on the bruised berry define and would say its definitely a deep rich purple. It's fab! If I went strictly by the photos I don't think I would have bought it as it looks like pigment blue.

Bruised berry is definitely purple...it's a royal purple, a little bit brighter that Lolo purple from a few years ago. In all the photos it looks blue, but it's not! I'd say it's the purple version of pigment blue, if that makes sense

I love love love the Ebb and Flow crops. I have two pairs in the black and grey, and would add a pair in Deep Indigo in a heartbeat. I've had no problems with sheerness or being see-thru. I'm actually sad that others aren't enjoying the crops - they are fabulous!

I might be the minority here, but I like low rise shorts. I was debating on ordering the dart and dash short. I didn't like the run shorty short. I thought the inseam was a little bit too short. I didn't like where it hit my thighs. The dash and dart seem to be the answer to this dilemma. I am a huge fan of the groove short so I think I'll like these too. Now....which color? Definitely not the dalmation print!

I have the Ebb and Flow deep indigo and I love them. They are the comfiest crops and no problems with sheerness too. :-)

If I weren't waiting for new crops to pop up next week I'd order one in black.

Am I going crazy, or were the inkblot scuba and commuter scuba on md in wmtm, and now they're back in the jackets section for full price...??

Anon 5:19, I bought several pairs of the dart dash based on the medium rise as well. I have mommy tummy and I always check the rise. lulu needs to get their act together on specs!!!!

I sized up in the Dart and Dash shorts. I normally wear a 6 but on these the rise cut into my waist weird. I tried the 8 and loved them!

Sophia, thank you

Glad to hear you liked the Sun Runner short sleeve! I can't wait to try it on- I think it's a great concept. I just hope it's long enough that I don't feel like I have to wear a tank under it. My tummy is the one part I want to hide!

I tried on the Some Like It Hot crops at my store earlier this week, and oh my, they are SO CUTE.

However.

I know that the ties that cinch the waistband would get on my nerves because they'd be bumpy under a CRB or similar top. So I didn't buy them. As tempted as I was. I bought Run Fast and Free crops instead and why didn't anyone tell me how glorious it is to exercise in Luxtreme crops before??? Love them.

Is the dot crb the high polyester material or is it nice?

You guys are right, the website description for the Dart and Dash says medium rise. However the tag says low rise.

@ anon 12:19 am - It was the Fashion Island store in Newport Beach. Some of the markdowns are company wide and some are local to that store.

@ anon 5:19 am - Yeah, I don't recall. I remember the listing did say 6" inseam which is all I cared about at the time.

@ anon 7:50 am - Do you think the Dart and Dash run small? They are a little bit smaller width-wise than my Reverse Groove shorts but I was thinking maybe they did that to make it feel more compressive.

I saw the Some Like It Hot crops at my store yesterday. They only went to a 10 so I didn't try them on. They look totally cute, though.

@ Anon 4 am - The Bruised Berry is a dark purple. It's gorgeous. I took a photo of it but it came out blue and not true to life so I didn't post it.

@ anon 9:40 am - It's a polyester CRB. I don't mind most lulu polyester CRBs. They are thin enough that I don't feel hot in them.

Now you have me considering the sun runner SS! I am desperately wanting to try the sun runner LS, but the SS seems like it would be cooler to wear...I could throw some arm sleeves under and call it a day for my lunch runs. I'd buy the run in the sun LS for $54! I wouldn't pay $78, but I'd buy it on MD...boat neck and all...any 6's at fashion island?

Just wanted to post that I just picked up a flash light define at my showroom! Pretty happy girls right now! It's also super soft, softer than my other defines. Ah, an expensive week for me, my online order arrives tomorrow, will post review of the run for your money tank for sure!

Just bought a pair of the dash and dart shorts. I also avoid low rise, it always gives me a muffin top (never getting to get any of the super cute colored wunder unders is a great sadness for me - I did get the bruised berry polocrosses though!) HOWEVER I decided to try these on anyway, expecting they would be too low, but I was surprised...they're definitely not a medium rise, but I don't think as low as a typical low rise short or crop. I did size up to an 8 in these (I wear a 6 in everything), so maybe that accounts for the extra bit of rise.

Does the bruised berry define jacket run TTS? I'm contemplating purchasing it, but afraid that it would be too tight around my shoulders like the concord grape define I tried on previously.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the comparison on the shorts. The Take Flight shorts are my favourites too (perfect length & rise for me) so I hope they make a comeback, or similar Luxtreme shorts get produced. I wish I had bought more then just the 1 pair of Take Flights last year!

@1:08, I bought the bruised berry Define one size up. I usually take a 6 in Define, though 8 in the soft minicheck and similar fabrics. But this one felt a bit tighter. The porcelain did, too, though I stuck with a 6. And I've lost 5 lbs since buying my previous Defines, so it's not that I'm getting bigger. I think the Defines are shrinking a bit, at least these last 2.

The bruised berry is very similar to pigment blue, but with more purple in it. It's definitely a deep, gorgeous purple. Hope they make more bruised berry stuff.

Can anyone please advise how the rise on the Dash and Dart short compares to the rise on the Inspire II crop? The website has them both as medium rise (although someompne has commented that the tag says low rise on the shorts).

Also many thanks to fellow lulu fans on this site. It was here that I first read about the restocking of the Ebb and Flow crops and ventured to try a pair. I now own two pairs and love them. I sized up one size and have not experienced see-through problems.
