OMG the Pow Pink Stride Jackets Have Even Worse Stitching Than the Defines

(click to see a larger version of these photos)
Recently posted on one of my lulu boards - photos of stitching from a Pow Pink Stride that was ordered from Monday's upload. This is even worse than any of the Defines I saw in the store. I finally bought a decently stitched Pow Define yesterday (tags are still on) but I am wondering if the cheap thread will fail and I will have problems down the line. (Thanks to Ms. D. for the photos.)

WTF?!?!?!?!?

No shit! Effing inexcusable.

Holy smokes.... My $20 C9 by Champion jacket from Target just keeps looking better and better. Cuz that right there is MESSED UP. Unreal.

I was thinking the other day that I was kind of stupid to pay $99 + tax for a hot pink jacket by lulu since I can find a bunch of companies that make cute jackets in hot pink. Bruised Berry might be another story but Barbie pink is really common.

Wow! That is crazy. Thanks to your blog, though, I've been looking over products carefully before I buy them.

I barely know how to sew and could absolutely do a better job than this. Every single item has seen cost cutting changes - it's so disheartening. I feel for the educators in the store, as they know products are horrible too.

My C9 jacket is almost identical in color to pow pink, and looks a lot like an in stride. I got it last year, and it's actually one of my favorite jackets. Speaking of bruised berry, I tried on an in stride yesterday in that color, but could not find one with a decent dot distribution in my size. It's a shame because it's such a beautiful color, but the one I tried on didn't even have dots on one whole side of the symbol. I knew it would drive me crazy, so I left it there. But I agree, you could easily find another cute, hot pink jacket with seams that will hold up better than what we've seen lately. Let us know what you decide on your define.

Maybe they have really bad earthquakes over there and the needle jumps every few minutes with the aftershocks? Amazing. I almost failed home ec class in high school... I was the only one in my class who couldn't wear their "jams" on the last day because I couldn't sew them right in class... But by golly..:: I bet I could make a LLL jacket just fine.

Sorry to the young gals on blog who don't remember what jams are! Hahaha!!

This is my thinking on the Define as of right now. If the stitching starts to unravel I can bring it in for repair. If the seamstress messes up the repair, then the store has to make good on it so I am leaning towards keeping it and seeing how it goes.

Lulumum's site also had a reader send in her own Pow Pink stride stitching horror story....very disappointing.

Anonymous said...

Unacceptable! I think I'm going to go ahead and return my Pow Define tomorrow. I can't get past the white mesh and all of these quality issues have me turned off. I was going to exchange lt for the Stride, but hell no.

LuluAddict said...

@ anon 1:04 pm - That is the same photo - Lulumum and I are on the same boards.

This is insane! I am one of the lucky few who received a pow define with acceptable stitching. I have already washed and worn it and so far so good. This Stride however, is completely unacceptable. I am shocked it was sent out this way.

LuluAddict said...

Lulu must do a piss poor job of holding their manufacturer's feet to the fire if they ship this stuff out.

Anonymous said...

This is completely asinine! They seriously need to stop production until these issues are resolved. Who the hell is in charge of QC and why have they not been fired? I would have so much more respect for LLL as a company if they would just man up and admit their mistakes. Christine Day should lower her head in shame for what she's done to this company. Are there not board members who could oust her?!?!? I can't imagine she'll have much of a career after this stint is up. How bad is this going to get before something is done? This is beyond rock bottom!

Anonymous said...

That is just horrible!

I'm happy to have this blog to hear these stories from. When I got my recent order, I checked all the seams on every item I ordered even though they weren't jackets. I worry that one day I see a WU with bad stitching like this.

No offense, to anyone....but WHEN is everyone gonna see Lululemon is a sinking ship????? Over the last week, I read quietly through 100s of comments, people upset and complaining about terrible quality and then even MORE comments about people obsessing ALL DAY LONG...about all the Lulu they want or are buying. I'm sorry, but Lulu is obviously a huge sinking ship and I have to say.....I've already gotten off the boat and Im paddling away. Seriously, it's time for you all...to do the same! Service sucks, quality sucks and prices are going up considerably!!!! If you all keep buying...Lulu is never going to change!!! It kinda defeats the purpose to say how disappointed you are in Lulu, you are done with Lulu and then obsess all day long about your new pink define and currant scuba you just ordered online. Christine Day....I'm sure is reading this blog.....and laughing all the way to the bank!!! Lets stop this NOW..... I'm sure I'll come back later and see more posts, of people obsessing on and on of what they're going to buy now...and that vicious circle will just continue! Sad really.... We all need to band together and say NO MORE LULU!

well said 2:55am! AGREED! Lulu Strike!!!

Anonymous said...

I know....we need to stop purchasing Lulu-- just till their clear up all their major problems!! This is UNEXCEPTABLE Lulu!!! Lulu Strike!!!

Minda said...

I've stopped buying items online completely. If I get anything Lulu it is because I found it in person on a discount rack. Though I was super happy to get my currant scuba one month ago. . .that is the only thing I've gotten in a month online- which is crazy for me cause I was upwards of 200 weekly for a while.

I still like to see what is new and coming out, I'm curious about the ziggy stripe leggings, but I won't buy them online.

When I order something online I just want to know there is consistency with the product being offered. We can't even review items properly anymore due to good batch bad batch scenarios.

-I'm still here enjoying this blog but not a lulu spender recently

Anonymous said...

I agree, lets all strike (that is going to be so hard for me!), and force Lulu to re-examine their quality!!

Anonymous said...

Refusing to buy as much as we all do....will speak VOLUMES!! If we don't buy...it will force Lulu to change things or go bankrupt!!! Agreed 2:55 STRIKE! I'm sick of all this BS...and excuses up the ying yang from Lulu.

I know what you mean; Bebe used to be one of my fav companies to buy my cute sexy clothes when the majority of the clothes were made in France; then they started having them made in China and I went from spending thousands to nothing. I don't even want to go in the store because it's all crap now and cheap. I feel like this is exactly what has happened to Lulu. Bebe never changed and some girls sport their stuff like its amazing and I laugh because I know it's crap and comparable to forever 21's clothing now. Bebe never did come back and I don't think LLL will but they pretend to listen and "give our feedback to the design team" yet quality items are still not being produced in my opinion.

I saw several pop orange ss swiftlys yesterday w/ crappy stitching on the design seams in the front!! Looked like there were also sticthing issues with the other colors hanging on the rack too!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

A few weeks ago I ordered the v neck swiftly in black. The hem was completely uneven - very very obvious. I returned it but I bet they just put it back out.

Anonymous said...

I picked up a pair of the pow pink turbos and love them. They are solid pow pink and have a black edging on them. I picked them up from a strategic parter store a couple weeks ago though, not sure if they'll come out online.

Anonymous said...

OK, time for a Lulu strike! Nice, clean break....if we leave now!!! Lulu IS a sinking ship.... :( I'm not going to complain about my loose stitching anymore, because I'm done buying from them--at least for now.

Liana said...

You know what's really ridiculous? Someone posted a pic of shoddy stitching on three Swiftly tops on the Lulu facebook page. The GEC wrote back saying that the middle picture was blurry and didn't address her concerns. Seriously? Even I could see that the stitching in all 3 pictures was clearly messed up.

Anonymous said...

Good Lord! Well, I'm offically done with Lululemon. That picture was the last straw.

They deliver the same scripted responses when customers complain.

They blame the customers for defective products (your thighs cause friction, thus pilling; your pH levels are abnormal, so you are causing the color bleeding...)

They have cheapened production and have not lowered costs.

They are moving away from focusing on core, solid products.

I'm done. Glad I saw this post.

Yea..I saw that. Lulu is in "denial" BIG TIME and I'm not talking about the river in Egypt either!

A twitter hashtag of #lulustrike seems to be in order here, for those who tweet. Maybe they will take notice when the rest of people's twitter followers see too.

I live in a city with three stores and haven't visited in over 3 weeks, and I normally visit one store at least once a week. I have been happily buying hot pink (Paris Pink) Adidas shorts from Winners, bright lime (Wild Lime or Tree Frog Green) and neon red (Flash) "Power Y's" and running shells from Old Navy and warm pink (Tootie Frootie) "Venus" crops from Kyodan (Winners again). All in, I've spent about $100 for 5-6 items that don't bleed, don't fall apart, and don't stink of clams. Oh, and there is absolutely no camel toe in sight. Sorry lululemon, you sold out. Bye bye!

Anonymous said...

Oh and don't forget my hot, hot pink Adidas short-sleeved, mesh-backed running tee and high-rise navy blue compression crops from Old Navy! And guess what, I can bend over without everyone seeing my ars and when I run I don't sweat pink! Happy as a....clam!

The Lulu ship is sinking!!! Quick! JUMP onto the life raft, while you can!!!!!

Kristin said...

I've sworn off potential bleeders since paris pink. So....I haven't purchased a vibrant color from lulu in a very, very long time. Now, it looks like I will not be buying strides or defines unless I can get to a store to check the seams. The nearest store is 4 hrs away. My huge purchases from lulu are over and have been for a long time. I will buy the occasional lulu item but that is rare these days. Lately, I've been buying off ebay. I don't know if lulu will recover from their crappy quality. As we all know, one has to admit there is a problem before we can come to a resolution. At this point, lulu hasn't even taken responsibility for their issues. They don't even think that their is an issue. They continue to blame the customer. IMO, I think the consumers are beginning to notice. In the not too far past, colored WU would sell out lightning fast on upload night. Now, there is still a full size run on the pow pink WU. Weren't they uploaded 3 wks ago (cannot remember when they were uploaded)? Items aren't selling out like they did in the past. I really hope they recover. I can endure the occasional bad design, but I cannot endure lack of quality. How do these items make it into the consumer's hands?

Kristin said...

Ooooh, so sorry for the terrible grammar....not their but there. Sorry. Ugh.

@ Minda - I am kind of with you on not ordering from the on line store anymore. That Pow Define that I got was much worse than any that of the eight others I looked at in the stores. However, since it's never a guarantee that the brick and mortar stores will have the same stock as the on line if it's a really desired item (such as the April Wee Space CRB color), I'll order one from on line and get another at the store and then return one. I feel for the people who don't have a brick and mortar store nearby. I would probably resort to buying vintage lulu from ebay circa 2009-2010.

Don't forget there are a still a few core items - namely CRBs and WUs - that are made in Canada. The Pow Cool Racerback is made in Canada and I haven't had a problem with it bleeding on me. Also, I ordered the Black Space Dye Wunder Unders that were uploaded the other day and those are also made in Canada. They do have the triangle gusset but so do my luxtreme running pants and it doesn't give me CT. My lady-geography must work ok with both designs. That's not to say the material is better but I would think the stitching has to be better.

Oh yes - BTW - Lulu is going back to the diamond gussets on their bottoms so posting your feedback on their wall, in reviews, and sending emails to the GEC worked.

I don't think Bebe had as nearly a rabid fanbase as lulu so I think (hope) keeping up public pressure - posting on facebook - might help them reign in the quality problems. I would assume the stores, who take the brunt of the returns, have to be complaining, too.

I know I've mentioned this a couple of times but the high resale is a HUGE factor in why I buy lulu. I bought X tanks back in October of 2010, 21 months ago. They were $58, with tax $62.38. I sold them recently for $50 so subtracting ebay/paypal fees netted about $40 meaning that the cost to me for each of those tanks was $22.38 and I got to wear them for 22 months. Very few athletic wear brands have as high a resale as lulu. It cannot be discounted.

So, publicize the bad, inspect the crap out of your new stuff, return it if it doesn't work out, but keep the decent stuff.

Oh yes - GEC is starting to request photos of bleeding on known problem things, i.e., Flash X-long CRB, so if you have a bleeder take photos before you wash it to try and fix it.

Hi everyone,
I've been reading this blog about a month (good stuff) but first time commenting. I understand your frustrations with Lulu's current quality and I'm thinking it might have to do with supply and demand. It seems like we as consumers have been demanding so much, and their marketing strategy has been to give use something new every few days. They must have cut corners in a bunch of places, found new crappy vendors to stitch their clothing and shipped as soon as possible so we can all just gobble it up like idiots. Poor QC is definately a factor.

They think their marketing strategy is slick but in the end it's really gonna hurt them. I work for a manufacturing company (in the marketing dept) so I have an idea of what goes on behind the scenes. Anyway, I agree with you all whole-heartedly. If you build it they will come. If we stop buying and "demanding" as much because of their crappy quality, they'll take note. I'm going to start saving my hard earned $$$. Thanks for the eye openers on this blog, really appreciate it!!

WOW.....yea Lulu does have awesome resell value!!! I have grooves I wore 2 times and sold them for $80. Sold them on Kijiiji 4 days later. :) It's sad though to have to inspect and inspect and INSPECT new Lulu and Lulu is suppose to be a premium brand. My once $100-250 a week lulu habit has since turned into a $60 a month spending habit. I come on here....read all the ranting....and ohhhhhh don't buy this, don't buy this, don't buy that, and certainly don't by ANY bleeders! I'm not interested in paying BIG BUCKS for problems and Lulu is a big problem! When you have kids, a husband, animals....ohhhhh a JOB, the last thing you wanna do, is spend your "free time" frigging around with how to wash your Lulu. Sorry....so not worth it anymore. And BTW...thanks to everyone, who says whats good and what's not-- saves me A LOT of trouble!!! :)

And your blog BTW way is the BESTEST!!!! I don't even bother with that other one. LOL (You know the one I'm talking about) ;)

LLA, on your 1.25 PM comment, sad to report that my Made In Canada Wunder Grooves in black are made of the new thinner luon, so they are quite sheer. Really bummed (pun not intended!) about it.

Anonymous said...

I'm so bummed today and reached my wits end. I ordered what I thought would we a great outfit, mirage wu, indigo scoop, and pow pink define. I was so excited to wear it and first I noticed how sheer the pants were. I knew it might be a problem but hoped that with the darker print on the top it wouldn't be so bad, I guess I was thinking crazy. From what some educators have told me, people wear them like that with nude underwear but im just not into having to coordinate my underwear in order to wear a pair of workout pants. Then I tried on the define, although no unraveling seems it just looked cheaply made. The seems we're so distinct, I don't ever remember my defines being like that in the past. It was such a pretty color but the seems we're just screaming at me. So it's all going back including some other things because I was just so frustrated. I'm done, I'm sick of this hit or miss with them. Shipping is too much to keep sending this crap back.
