Scratch Gap Fit Off Your List of Alternative Athletic Wear

FYI - Photo of a "ray" Gap tee that picked up color from a lulu Alarming Commit tank. That tank was not a bleeder. Supposedly Gap and lulu use the same factories and fabric suppliers. There have been problems with lulu's Ray items drawing the color out of older lulu items that never had bleeding issues. (Thanks to Karin for the photos.)

I think something more sketchy is going on lately with the water or atmosphere or something. I have had a hot pink victoria's secret bikini for years and have always loved it. On a recent vacation, I wore the thing alone on the beach and it did not touch any other clothes or lulu stuff or anything, and the friggin bikini for the first time in three years bled pink dye all over my body!! So this is definitely not isolated to certain brands but is quite a bit of clothing in general, and why after owing and washing this swimsuit for three years does it begin bleeding now??

I've actually been very happy with my Gap Fit items. I have some look-alike swiftlies in a few vibrant colors and some v-neck 'breathe'' shirts. Nothing has bled, and I have worn all of them layered with Lulu CRBs (heathered menthol and porcelaine most recently). I think that they are really stepping up the quality and actually taking a page from LLL's book in terms of colors. I can't comment on their crops as I have not tried them, but their shirts and bras are lovely and offered at a great price.

@ unknown - I have read that people are liking the gap "swiftly" tops a lot. Just wanted to beware of the Gap ray tops and that it might grab dye from their other tops.

On the topic of bleeding colors....my daughter has a swimming suit from Target that can be described as LLL's "Flash" color. It didn't bleed in the wash, however, if it is wet and lying on white towels or white pants (learned the hard way!) it bleeds all over them badly. Once I laundered all the items again the color transfer came out thankfully.

I have three flash items and have yet to have any issues with bleeding. I also have one Paris pink item and I was still new enough to LLL at the time of purchase that I had no clue about bleeding and had been putting it in the wash with all of the rest of my LLL clothing. But no bleeding or issues there as well.

I would love to try a couple of the gapfit items, but now am a bit hesitant. My friend has a lot of their gapfit clothing and loves it and has yet to have problems.

LLA - so people should scratch gap fit off their list because of one bad item? Why shouldn't people scratch lululemon off their lists too? They have had plenty of bad items.

Nothing is more awesome than wearing your brand-new ray tank out for a 12 mile run, then having your husband look at you 10 miles in and telling you that your boobs are bleeding pink. FANTASTIC.

No offence, but I kind of agree with anon 8:17 AM. :)

I've never had a GapFit item bleed on me. Not even the bright colors that you might think. Are we sure that it wasn't the lulu tank that bled on the ray t-shirt?

What in the world is this crazy neon dye made from that it does this to clothes? I would have thought that there would have been ample time to make sure it worked as a fabric color since the 80's. Or did they just put the bucket of dye on a shelf until everyone had forgotten how problematic the dyestuff can be on material?

I tried on the gap line today and I couldn't do it. The tanks are shorter and Just don't feel very thick... it just felt like a regular tank but they did have pretty colors. The bottoms I tried on were awful, quality was great but the cut was all wrong and they did NOT flatter at all. I am not very big (118 lbs) but they made me look flat and wide... definitely not wunder unders or ebb and flows... those flatter my bum nicely :)

Live in a warm weather climate and have well over a dozen Victoria's Secret swimsuits that have NEVER bled. Not once. Not at all. Not when swimming, running on the beach, playing beach volleyball, etc. So, I find the VS bleeding claims very hard to believe. What I do know is that VS has recently expanded their line of yoga/workout wear. Not sure if the claims against VS are real or fabricated since they are now providing some competition for lululemon.

As for Gap, they do have quality control issues with inferior fabric that shrinks, etc, but bleeding is not one of the Gap problems I've experienced.

I love my Lulu but have tons of Gap fit sports bras and cute bright jackets n I have not experience bleeding in fact I'll wear a bright orange gap tank with my white denim WU in a heart beat over one of my bright Lulu tops.

I also agree with Anon 8:17. Why would you continue to buy items from lulu that cost between $60-$150 in colours that are known bleeders that occurred with hundreds of peoples items but you won't buy a $20 tank from gap that has one report of bleeding on one colour? Bet Gap wouldn't tell you your pH is what caused the problem!

I've read about lulu bleeders pulling color from non-bleeders. I think this is again the issue, not Gapfit.

That said, I did buy a Gapfit swiftly-style tank and I noticed a pull in it, still NWT. May exchange, may return, if it's as fragile as the swiftlys are. Too bad - love the deep purple color.

yes, gap and lulu are made by the same manufacturers. just because lulu is more expensive, it doesn't mean that it's better quality... because it's essentially the same. i like both, don't get me wrong, but find it amusing when lulu snobs stick their nose up at gap or "lesser" brands. fun fact: they're the same. :)
