Studio Pant Price Going Up to $108 & Where Are The Reviews on the WMTM Section?

Some more photos of the new Pigment Blue Studio Pants. Shown with a Milky Way print top and the Perfect Layer SS Tee. Also, the price of the Studio Pant is going to be raised at $108.

Readers have noticed that reviews are missing from a number of items that went to the We Made Too Much Section. Since these items are final sale it would be nice to have information before committing to buy. For example, the Bonded Seam Speed Shorts got quite a few negative reviews for causing chafing in runners. Hopefully this is just a glitch. The worst case is that bad reviews were deliberately suppressed. You can always ask people here for their feedback or use the Search box on the right column to find archived comments about an item. The safest bet would be to assume people didn't buy them for a good reason and don't purchase until the reviews are restored. None of the deals on WMTM are that great, in my opinion.

Do you know if the price for studio crops is going up too?

Agree with your comments on the WMTM mysteriously "missing" reviews. I gave those shorts a negative review before they landed on the WMTM. Last week, my review still existed, but now it has been deleted. How do I know this? Well, LLL only allows 1 review per item per customer. If you attempt to submit a 2nd review, it is rejected as a "duplicate" immediately. When the "missing" reviews came to my attention last night, I went on the LLL website, logged in, and was able to post another negative review for the naked/bonded seam shorts. So, my original review no longer exists. Unethical, immoral, deceitful, dishonest, money-grubbing, and a laundry list of other negative attributes can be added to LLL's legacy and CEO Christine Day's resume. I'm with you though, no reviews no purchase. Any discounts given are minimal, the items are final sale, and they ended up on the WMTM for a reason. Lately, all the stinker "new" designs are on the expressway to the WMTM. LLL just lost another cutomer. Investors need to dump LLL stock in a hurry!!

I have a pair of the studio pants in the wren color. I don't wear them that often and I wash them with my delicates, the pants look really worn, they are not worth $108.
The bonded speed shorts do chaffe.

@ anon 8:38 - good question. I would almost assume they must be.

@anon 8:49 am - wow, deleting negative reviews is pretty low if that's true. I very, very rarely buy anything that has been sent to markdown anymore unless I've already bought it at full price, know it's ok, and just want to pick up another color. I've been burned by unraveling hems (zoom crops and knee shorts - though these were easily fixed at the store) and flaking finish on a gym bag. There are still a number of negative reviews on items, look at the latest version of the Run Response shorts for example. I will think positively and believe the IT team messed up and deleted the reviews when they moved items to the WMTM section but it is weird it's on the bonded shorts, which nobody liked.

On a side note, I don't know why lulu persists with bringing out bonded seam items. I can't see the technology really adds significant advantage to the performance of anything it's used in. Moreover, the gluing makes the seams stiff, have a harsh edge, and cut into your skin. I'd rather they try to bring back silver luon rather than perfect bonded seams.

You know with all the BS going on with Lulu stuff, I think I'm just going to switch to Athleta.
Great fitting, better fabrics, better seams, nothing is falling apart so far and most importantly CHEAPER!
Great customer service too, which is sometimes unheard of at Lulu stores. And fabulous return policy!
So there, I'm considering ditching Lulu as well.

I ordered a pair of pants online and they came fairly fast, but with security tag still attached!! and they were unevenly dyed, with visible streaks. Sorry, but if you want to charge $98 for a pair of pants, they should be perfect.
I asked them at the store if they ever give discounts in such situations, they told me "no", the item is defective and will be destroyed, and they don't want to sell anything that is not perfect.
Remind me again how this imperfect item ended up at my door shipped all the way from the West Coast??

Just saying.

$108 for a pair of pants you can get at Target for $25 is insane. Whatever, Lulu. If I were a stock holder, I'd be running fast right now. Drop the stocks and run.
Bonded seams are ridiculous. I would never buy that. Ditto for camel toe gussets, see-through fabrics, bleeding and reeking fabrics and all the ridiculously ugly designs their out-of-touch designers are concocting.
And killing negative reviews is just sleazy. But not surprising, coming from Christine Day.
I do like the Bordeaux drama, angel blue, power purple and pigment CRBs of late. And if the My Mantra LS weren't so insanely high priced, even at MD ($54), I'd buy a few because they're so cozy. Ditto for the Every Yogi LS (MD at $69 still isn't enough). But pretty much I'm visiting the store now only to hover around the MDs and wait for the prices to fall further. It's no longer clothing of such nice quality that it's worth splurging. Feels good not to be so addicted anymore.

That is super sketchy!!!

Btw, has anyone tried the speed squad shorts? They are the layered looking ones. Tempted but final sale...any feedback would be helpful thanks!

$108??? Really? Add our 13% tax and that's $122. For track pants. Yes, they're great pants, but that's a bit much for me. I'm basically done at LLL.

I can't get over the price stupidity on the WMTM section. Now, I have bought items from WMTM, but I usually own it in a different colour that I picked up at full price to begin with. LOVE my Run; Wild Jacket, and it is in WMTM for $59 down from $138. But I want to pickup the Run; Nothing to Hide jacket, it retails at $118 and its only down to $79?? Ugh, Pardon me? by my logic that jacket should be at the same sale price, if not CHEAPER than the Run Wild jacket... Since no one seems to be buying them I will bide my time though. They will eventually drop the price but who knows, maybe they will leave them their to rot.

Regarding the price increase on Studio Pants, I was at my store this past weekend (Natick, MA) and the price on Studio Pants (at least the Bordeaux Drama ones I tried on) was already marked up to $108. Enough is enough Lulu!

sophia said...

the biggest problem with increasing the price to $108 (aside from the fact that it's ridiculous) is that in many markets, it's not *just* a $10 price increase...it's $10+tax. many places don't charge tax on clothing under $100 (nyc, for example). but once it's over $100, you get hit with tax. so it's not just $10 increase, but here in nyc it's almost a $19 increase....and i'm sorry lulu, but i'm NOT paying $119 for DSP.

I don't run so I never looked at the shorts on the site at full price but we're they possibly listed on the same page as the unbonded style?

The reason I ask is because I think I saw that happen before when they listed the patterned "travel to track" jackets seperate from the regular ones in WMTM. I chalked it up to just needing to make a new page for them at the time.

Hoping for the best: is this possibly what happened? I would certainly hope they would not be deleting reviews... That would be mighty shady... Especially if we are stuck with it after buying.

I'm with 8:49AM... "Unethical, immoral, deceitful, dishonest, money-grubbing, and a laundry list of other negative attributes can be added to LLL's legacy". I'm getting quite pissed off at Lululemon for cutting back on quality, accusing customers for poor performance in their clothing (the PH excuse !!) and taking their buyers for idiots !! Taking out negative feedback is pretty low.... I haven't bought a piece of Lulu in many weeks and I'm starting to look for other brand names to replace LLL. Why encourage a compagny that does not respect their clients ?? I will give them another chance if they come up with better quality and better designs though.

I just called my local stores & so far, only the price of the studio pants have increased. The studio crops are still $88.

That's funny, I wrote a review for the aphrodite pant yesterday & it still isn't on the site! It was a positive review, so there is no reason LLL wouldn't want to post it. I tried to repost again, but system didn't allow it.

Well, lululemon has made a decision for me.

I was going to buy a pair of black DSPs because I thought they'd be nice to have to wear around. But at $108 plus tax, I am going to say NO. I can wear the pair of almost identical pants that I picked up for less than $30 at Target. $98 was high enough, but this has officially put them over the edge. Plus, the Target version are much sturdier.

When I was at the store today, the manager said the crops were still $88. The price increases and quality decline are killing my love for lululemon. Lulu knockoffs are vastly improving in quality for a fraction of the price.

That's the problem with the bonding. I have with the Relaxed fit and Will pants. The little holes where the waist tie goes through is bonded not sewn open. Not a problem if the holes are facing outward and not touching your skin (when Will pants waist is rolled down). But when those little holes are touching your skin, the bonded nature of those holes are sharp and rubs on your skin. It does that after a couple of washes. I took the pants in and they tried to fix it. But they can't. Now I have 2 pairs of pants that I cannot wear. Hate the bonded stuff.

I saw this on Lulu's facebook page that might offer some answers: https://www.facebook.com/lululemon/posts/10151098735857732?comment_id=23604618&offset=0&total_comments=1

Still seems shady.

My negative review for an item that is not in WMTM, the groove shorts, was deleted. Basically I said that I loved the shorts but that I do not like the triangular gusset.I checked earlier today and it is gone. Very, very disappointing.

Anonymous said...

Awesome. Lulu just keeps making it easier and easier to make the break. I just saw a Target commercial which said, "Expect more. Pay less" and I thought how opposite that was to Lulu's theme lately of "Pay more, expect less".

When asked why I love Lulu, I can't honestly say that it's worth the price, or that the quality is worth splurging on. This explains why I've sent 80% of the items back that I've ordered lately, and why I no longer stay up for the uploads. It was good while it lasted, but the love affair is fading.

Well Studio Pants are already $129(!!!) in Australia... do you think we might see a price increase too? Why not try it Lulu... surely we're stupid enough to pay $149 for track pants? Lol.

That is weird about the reviews disappearing. I remember reading those Speed Short Naked Seam reviews and they were all bad - seams cutting people and making them bleed. This is why I was not at all impressed with that being the style of short for the LLL Sea Wheeze race kit. I haven't worn mine! Plus I don't like the boxer short look.

On reviews disappearing: I bought the "Travel to Track" jacket when it went to wmtm earlier this year (May-June). It was first at $79 and then dropped to $59. I actually wrote a glowing review as it is truly a superb jacket, as did many ladies who bought it on sale and also loved it. The original reviews (majority of them very positive!) eventually disappeared. I thought that was weird as those reviews would have helped them to sell more jackets while it still sat in wmtm. If LLL did this on purpose with the Naked Seam short, that would be unethical and low!

I used to work in IT and remember experiencing something similar where we lost past reviews when we amended the name of an item. Because the reviews were associated with the other name, the system didn't recognize them as being associated with the "new" product. If I recall correctly, I think the name used to have the word "naked seam" in the title, and now does not so I would guess it might e a similar issue? Just a theory!

Just a note for anyone looking for a studio pant/crop alternative--I just bought the Flashdance crops from Lorna Jane and I love them. Comfortable, flattering, and $55! Lorna Jane is an Australian company that's just opened a few stores in so Cal but their stuff is super cute and a good alternative to those fleeing Lulu because of quality issues.

Anonymous said...

Talking of Australian site- I regularly notice that the reviews are unlinked from the products.

1. Might be a technical error as they're generally, ahem, not all that tech literate.

2. It does tend to be the lower ranked reviews and those of products which have progressed to WMTM- but I then just set off on a googling spree to dig up info I can.

This is a slippery path, Lululemon. I'm with Anon @8.49 and the laundry list of negative attributes.

I don't think Lulu deliberately holds back negative reviews? Not in the past anyway? One of the things I have definitely appreciated about reviews, is people are really candid, especially when they are unhappy. I see those reviews posted all the time and it does help me decide if I will or won't buy an item. When it comes to performance and wear/tear over a period of time, the reviews are very important! They're also significant for people who do not have any access or easy access to the retail stores. And for people who may not even be familiar with LLL but are buying for their loved one and trying to make an informed decision.

Myself, the majority of my reviews have been positive and all have been posted. My negative reviews have also all been posted. Once I asked a question about an item and it was never posted or answered.

Anon 5:06 I totally agree!! Absolutely live in my Lorna Jane Flashdance Pants (rolled up as the long version has cuff buttons)... with a Lulu cool racerback! Its pretty much my everyday casual uniform and I own them in all colors :)

I have to disagree with whomever said they could get these pants for $25 at target. Even with the sharp decline in quality, I get a lot more from my lulu stuff than anything I've gotten from the AVERAGE discount department store.

The tuff athletics brand from costco is a totally differnt story. Last i looked it was $17.99 for a pair of yoga pants nearly identical in fit and quality to lulu's grove pants. The only problem is that they only have those pants and one style of jacket :-(.
I tried on the discover crops and they were beautuful and just what i wanted... pockets, design, fit... then i did the bend test :-(. I tried sizing up but they kept falling... and it was like that with 9 other pairs of black bottoms the other day. The denim ones were perfect... with no sheerness, but I need blackest black in bottoms or it looks like I've peed myself...

I tried on some traditional sports brands but no awesome pockets...

Lulu has essentially only got my pants purchases until under armour learns to put better pockets into there stuff and every other sports brand figures out the bra cups... then i will run like a pair of panty hose

Anonymous said...

I have been sticking with Lulu due to their fit and the bra cups. I am size 4, and nobody else seems to know how to make small sizes that flatter less than voluptuous figures. It has a lot to do with the way they design the chest area without flattening.

When I first started buying, I used to believe their "5 years of abuse" mantra. I stopped having that delusion a while back after seeing the material deteriorate even after a handful of washes.

I now ask myself often why I still keep buying expensive products that do not deliver on their promises. And the answers for now have been that nobody else seems to know how to fit me and that no other exercise clothing is as street friendly as Lulu, therefore justifying the high price tags.

All that said, I am now ready to look into new brands. Th Lulu fan culture is addicting, and there are still cute things to buy from Lulu for sure. However, I owe it to myself to look for alternatives. It's time to let my eyes wander elsewhere.

The bonded speed shorts reviews are back on the web now. Glad the glitch was fixed.
