Sea Wheeze Items on the Australian Website

The Sea Wheeze items have hit the Australian side of the website. A reader had commented that she heard that the Sea Wheeze store in Vancouver hadn't received its full shipment so these were left over items. I don't believe that's true because the Aussie Sea Wheeze items go up to a size twelve and the actual Sea Wheeze store stopped at a ten. These are newly made items. Interesting. I can see offering the clothes to Australians since they didn't have a realistic chance of getting to the race but I still think they should have manufactured the clothes without the runner girl as part of the logo.

Oh man, I would totally get two pair of speed shorts at least, maybe all three SW colors, the duffle, maybe the light as air skirt and maybe the two CRBs.

Any chance they will show up on the US side?

If by chance some one in Lululemon's HQ reads this....

PLEASE UPLOAD THESE ON THE US SIDE!

I have zero respect for Lulu for releasing these items outside of the race. It was said over and over again that the race would have exclusive SeaWheeze merchandise for those who elected to travel and participate in the race. What will they say when they're advertising next year's race? I don't fault the Australian's being able to purchase these items, nor fault all of the girls having the items angeled by nice Australian's, but I really think it questions the integrity of Lululemon. My SeaWheeze items no longer feel special to me. The race was a great time, but this taints those great memories.

Ha and the duffle bag on the Aussie side actually says Sea Wheeze inside it on the print

Anonymous said...

LLA I agree, That was my thought as well. NO runner girl.

Do we think the US or Canadian side will see anything uploaded?

Groovinpinky said...

Does this mean we should expect to see it on the US site soon?

What lulu should have done was make another batch of Sea Wheeze stuff and offer it to everyone but leave the runner girl off. They would have sold a lot more yet still keep the actual race stuff "special." The hard core lulu fans would know what it meant to spot a runner girl on the clothes but the casual buyer wouldn't care.

@ anon 7:29 am - I've made peace with them releasing this stuff to the general public but I am a little irked. Like I said, if I go to the race next year I will not spend much time or money at the store until it has the race name and date on what they are selling. At least we have our flip flops and stuff sack. There are still some pieces they didn't make - the Swiftly colors, the plaid hat, the Nothing But Run Jacket and Shorty Shorts, the items in the cream color.

There have been reader and lulu FB comments that indicated only Australia was getting this stuff. I'm sure it will pop up on eBay so keep an eye out.

LuluAddict said...

I meant UNLESS the Sea Wheeze items have the race name and date on it, not until.

Jen said...

Lulu angels in Oz, please identify yourselves! Hoping they release in NA, but I am not holding out that much hope.

Anonymous said...

i really don't see anything wrong with them selling the sea wheeze stuff in Australia or anywhere else for that matter, yes if it had the date and place where the race took place that would be a different thing. It's promoting the sea wheeze race apparel not the race itself. they should actually make items with the place and date, that way the people who participated get their gear. I would totally buy those pants if they were uploaded or sold at a store nearby.

LuluAddict said...

I think the problem is that LLL promoted the SW gear as being exclusive for race participants (turns out not so since they sold it to the general public who showed up) and only available to buy at the race so it was one of the enticements to sign up and travel to the race.

LuluAddict said...

I know some people have commented that you can buy Nike Women's Marathon gear, for example, on the Nike online store. However, I've been to a couple Disneyland Half Marathon expos and they have race gear that is exclusive to the on-site store. You cannot buy it on line unless some entrepreneur happens to unload it on ebay so having race gear just available AT the race is not unprecedented.

I think the size 12 is just the difference in Australian sizing compared to US/ Canadian I'm pretty sure it's our size 10

LuluAddict said...

It is not. Check the size charts. It is a true NA 12 or really a "lululemon" size 12. The sizes go from 2 to 12. If it were Australian sizes it would range from 6-16 or stop at 14 because that is the Australian equivalent to a lululemon size 10. Also, check the sizes in what they equal to centimeters. The 12 is 101 cm for the bust.

Did anyone check if it really is "leftover" if it made it to the outlet stores at all?

LuluAddict said...

The North American outlet stores? I am on enough lulu boards that I would have known. The leftovers got sent to the Robson store in Vancouver. They might have also been sent to the Vancouver outlet store but there really wasn't that much leftover and a lot of the items on the Australian website are stuff that was sold out at the store - the hats are one example. It's also interesting to me there is no mens Sea Wheeze stuff. That did not sell nearly as well at the actual event.

Anonymous said...

I live about an hour away from the Orlando outlet and 2 weeks ago they got a small shipment of the blurred blossom wonder unders and they were only 29.00. So I thought if there really was a left over few boxes that did not make it to the marathon on time, maybe they Could show up at one of the outlets. But probably not:(

macfrannie said...

These weren't on the regular tuesday new stuff upload where they? Did they pop up this morning (Friday)?

I'm going to have to be even more obsessive about checking for stealth uploads than I already am, if that is possible.

Girlydoll said...

I stuck around for a week after the race, very small amounts of SeeWheeze items made it to the stores in Vancouver, because most of it was sold out. Mostly mens items were there.

I am upset that they are on the Australian site only, I wish they would have offered it to the runners who went to the SeeWheeze... but I see the nightmare doing that would have caused as well.

And lets be realistic, it doesn't take 4 months for a container to show up, these are new made after the event items... For all of those items in different sizes, AND an entire size 12 line to be in one container?? We are not stupid people here.

This was the straw, I am officially no longer Lululemons bitch, I am buying a pair of running pants from Mizuno and Sugoi as we speak. A little less expensive, and the quality if top notch.

LLA thanks as always for the updates and info. I agree with all your comments including suggestions such as the runner girl should have been left off any newly manufactured SW items. I did hear that a shipment did not make it to the SW store and they wouldn't have enough gear for even Saturday. I agree though, I don't think it would be THAT much gear as to offer it on-line and in stores for OZ/NZ. A few clothes in random retail stores Down Under, sure. But who knows! I don't have a problem with it showing up Down Under, but I think it is a really bothersome that it's not that special anymore. Also, for people who attended the race and thought they could shop on Saturday, there was almost nothing left (I was there the Friday and so much was cleared out!), so those runners REALLY got the short end of the stick. I was there early enough and bought a few items I truly wanted, and really had to "work" to get my hands on a striped CRB. I really wanted the red shorts with the blue trim and striped waistband but they were gone! I too think we should have had the CRB with the SW fish and the race name/year and that should have come in the kit! This race registration was already very expensive - the most expensive I have paid! and I've been running and racing for years.

Oh well, lesson learned. Don't believe or get sucked into the hype. LLL will do whatever it wants.

Lucky Australians! I really do hope this stuff makes it to the US side. I think they should have had just a few exclusive items or things with the race and date for sale at SW. They made so many items and let's face it, the SW items are WAY cuter than anything else they have made lately. If it was open to the public and sold on eBay for way more money, it isn't really exclusive anyway. I can see how it could be disappointing to the lucky shoppers/racers there, but it sounded like the race was so much fun on it's own. I would love to do it next year!

Anonymous said...

i really don't see the big deal. as long as they don't sell the actual medals or other "dated" stuff. of course those things should be for runners only. i'm sorry some of you don't feel special anymore, but the experience was probably more satisfying than having an "exclusive" item. unless, you wanted the merchandise to illicit comments about how awesome the race was....whatever, i really don't get it--and I'm the type of person who even thinks Coach is too ordinary. i like me my high-brow stuff, but it's just stuff and i don't need to discuss in person. only by trolling the blogs:)

luluFemom said...

Wow. This is HUGELY disappointing to me -- as someone who flew across the continent for the race, lured (foolishly) by the "exclusive" merch. -- but I'm still not convinced this stuff was made new -- they were soooo understocked right from the get-go Friday, I almost believe the lost shipment theory and think it just took them 4 months to come up with a plan that wouldn't result in utter revolt from SeaWheeze participants. Someone in OZ needs to check out the Ultimate No Show socks in the blue or lime -- those DID say "SeaWheeze" and "August 2012" on the inside, but there's no photo of the inside of the socks on the website. LLA - do you have any loyal Aussie fans who could take one for the team and help solve this mystery?

Anonymous said...

Haha I just had a thought: staff did tell me a whole shipment did not make it. Maybe that's what staff were told, the truth as far as they knew it. However, possibly THAT was just a plant by Management, for this future release of SW stuff that was already planned for OZ/NZ. LLL probably just created their own myth, hoping people would buy it. I think it's more likely they did exactly this! Everyone knows that when you contact the GEC on anything, often there are conflicting stories/advice/counsel and a lot of runaround! And, they go and change key pieces like the Scuba to a Scuba Stretch, forget to actually create a whole new item until customers complain. Right, thinking they can pass off the changes as the regular well love Scuba.

I hate to be cynical (since in life, I am not), but I really do think LLL corporate is just a bunch of liars and hypocrites.

@ 10:35 AM, hear you loud and clear. And yes, Mizuno and Sugoi rock.

LuluAddict said...

@ anon 12:37 pm - well, sure I like discussing the race with people who notice I'm wearing a Sea Wheeze item. That happened the day after the race when I would spot other people wearing the flip flops around Vancouver and we'd spark up a conversation. It's happened to me in the store when I see someone wearing a Sea Wheeze item. My husband starts conversations with people wearing various race shirts all the time.

LuluAddict said...

@ anon 2:46 pm - Liars, yes. Hypocrites, maybe. However, what corporation isn't?

I definitely think they lack the vision to see the brand from a true fan's side of things, that is for sure. I also sometimes think they lack the vision to see the brand from an active person's point of view. For example, where is the lightweight core hoodie in their women's line? That would be a staple in many people's wardrobes, would become an item people would buy several of and they haven't had one out for three, four years now?

Anonymous said...

This makes me so angry. I flew across the country at a HUGE cost to run the SeaWheeze. I didn't EVEN GET A CHANCE to buy most of the stuff because it was already sold out in my size when I got there ( late registration day). All I ended up getting was a sun blocker shirt, all the best tank colours/crops/shorts/bags were gone in the first few hours. Next year if I run I won't even bother buying anything, it's obviously a waste of money as it's about as exclusive as any other item they make.
Poo on you Lululemon.

I brought the spry blue socks today. I just checked the inside. They say august 2012 sea wheeze. I have a similar silver running girl on my Nike long sleeved running tops from a few years ago.

There are additional Sea Wheeze items in the Australian stores that weren't released on the website, including headbands and so on.

Anonymous said...

I'm in Australia - I wonder how well they'll sell given we weren't in the race! I'd be kind of put off buying them. Instead of them being a special token of the event & the achievement, I'd be wondering what a small cartoon girl was doing on my pants. :P

Could anyone explain how angeling works? I think I'd be happy to do it, but I don't understand how it's secure?

Alternatively I could buy Sea Wheeze stock & put it on eBay (at RRP). What sizes/colours/styles are most sought after?

I am an AVID Lulu addict from Australia – I workout a lot and so spend a lot of time in Lulu and I just LOVE it. I’m SOOOOO glad that we have got SeaWheeze stuff – and I don’t care about exclusivity etc – I’ve snapped up some pieces straight away its selling fast (speed shorts in some styles have all but gone). This SW range is one of the best color ranges I’ve seen and the Run For Your Life Race tank II is (imo) the BEST ever tank – by far my favorite item – I’m always on the lookout for those !!

Australia misses out on a lot and when we do get stuff – its usually in a limited color range or we get it months later. Almost all the crops we get (aside from WU) have black as the basic color – we rarely get coloured crops (eg limitless blue/clarity yellow Run Inspire II). I am dying to get the Run: Top Speed crop in micro macro Alberta lake black/black – God only knows when we will get it – if ever?....

We are forced to use the Australian site for Lulu purchasing which is really
disappointing as everything is SO MUCH more expensive here than in the USA. I am so lucky that I travel to the USA a couple of times a year and can manage to buy most over there. Other times I have to suck it up and pay – I picked up a couple of Scuba Hoodies recently (in the original style) before those Stretch Scubas come here – the reviews on those have been shocking!!

I would love for someone to buy me stuff and send it over here and id be happy to do the same – and charge only ACTUAL postage cost. . I’m sick of ebayers charging exorbitant prices for some stuff or not posting to Aust or when they do they charge ~$35 !

I have to agree with the person who said this is just stuff. Really, it is. I have been shopping at lululemon since it first opened in Victoria BC (12 years ago I would guess) and have spent thousands of dollars on the clothes and even worked there! I love the clothes and will only wear lululemon for my workouts. But sometimes we need to stop and think: are we getting caught up in an obsession? Does having a SW item make us a better human being or validate our experience at the race? No, it doesn't.

I am running my first marathon in Honolulu and I certainly plan to purchase a HNL Finisher shirt, jacket or hat because it actually says Finisher on it and it's a significant item for those who completed the race. I agree that lululemon missed the mark BIG TIME by not having shirts printed that said "Seawheeze" and by allowing people to make massive purchases which were later sold on eBay at ridiculous prices because people are so desperate to have a SW item. Sure, the company made some big mistakes but perhaps by obsessing over the items we are just making a bigger deal out of it than we need to?
