2012 In Review: Part 2 - The Bad

1. Amuse Me Pant - no words needed

2. Ride in the Rain Jacket - $298 to look like a human pylon

3. Zippy Run Tank - armpit fat city

4. Sun Runner Hybrid - fish gills

5. Hot Spell One Piece - a bit too sexy for most lulu fans and makes models look hippy

6. Calm SS Tee - lingering in the WMTM section

7. Full Stride Skirt - flattens everyone's ass

8. 3X a Lady

9. Intuition Wrap - armholes at your knees

10. Please Me Pullover

What would you put on your personal Worst List?

There has been far too mant ugly designs for Lulu this year! They need to stick to the basics and best sellers but offer a wider arrange of colours! not the drab ones they've been comin out with! They also need to stop trying to modify and change the staples we have all grown to love! Sometimes change is definitely not better!!!!

All excellent choices above.

And very nice summary for the Good, Bad and Ugly for 2012.

Happy New year wishes to you LLA and all LLA readers.

We continue to hope in 2013 for improvements and maybe a goodbye to C Day.

Very sad to see how bad things have become.

I have been shopping more and more at Athleta and am always treated so well. The Customer Is Always Right! They may not have as hip items as Lulu, but they are coming out with some lovely colors and better designs. Much better winter gear than Lulu!!

I am noticing increased prices and reduced quality in many more brands. I think this is a reflection of companies trying to cut costs due to inflation (sad reflection on our economy). However, other companies are much better at treating the customer properly because after all, it is repeat business and reputation that will keep your business alive.

I agree with all of these except for the calm ss tee. I had my doubts, but it looks great on my short torso. Lulu most definitely had more "misses" than hits this year. I hope they resolve to improve quality overall and bring back the standards that we as customers expect.

I especially hated that hot spell suit & those first pants! Oh dear!

The Amuse me pant FOR SURE!

The Calm SS tee was something I thought was HORRIBLE until I sized down two sizes and tried it on.. Now I own three.
Funnily enough, it's the piece of LLL clothing I get complimenting on the most. It can be rocked well, just needs to be rocked properly ;) haha...
Other than that, I agree whole-heartedly with this list!

I would add ANY of the MC hammer pants..

Anonymous said...

I think you pretty much covered it.

Anonymous said...

Oh oh! Please add the straight to outlet Wanderful Capelet to the list. Definitely brought the lols for me. Also, anything Hamburglar/Jailhouse Rock including the pullovers (especially the Deep Indigo Stripe Pullover that bled!), Scuba Hoodies, Crops, and CRBs. And one more, similar to the Please Me Pullover, the Sattva Jacket. You couldn't pay me to wear any of this ish. I better stop now because I could go and on listing the Worst of 2012. What a crappy year for lulu and for us as consumers!

The new Power Y. Still mourning the death of that wonderful tank...

Intuition wrap is my favourite best of the worst. Second to any piece that made the models have muffin top or look chunky. (The swim line is a great example)

Anonymous said...

Nooo!! Not the Please Me Pullover! I am wearing it as I type, and it is the most wonderful thing that I have ever put on my body...Now I feel self-conscious because it has been placed in the same category as the Amuse Me pant. :P

Anonymous said...

The swim line!

I think the amuse me pants definitely win the race... What were they thinking. LOL

I personally love the Calm SS and have 2 of them. It looks way cuter on in real life than it does in the pics online. It is a great light layering piece to throw on over a Power Y or CRB.

I have nothing to add..other than these pics made my day...toooo funny...! :) Happy new Year!

i agree with everything except the please me pullover, which is actually pretty cute on with a pair of WU and a CRB peeking down...just a comfy weekend pullover not very exciting, but surely there were worse things than the please me this year...anything with that horrid pastel floral pattern from early in the year would qualify...

oh my GAWD those pants are soooooo hideous!!! Holy diaper, batyogi!

Today I tried on the Flip up and out pants as on MD - I recall really liking these but not being able to justify them. I noticed on the pair I tried that the stitching was already coming undone on one of the legs and as I put them on, all you heard was "rip, rip, rip, rip" - they fit but I took them off and immediately handed them to the sales girl, showing her all the stitching coming undone. She was shocked but she's also new. I tried on another pair (same size) and they were perfectly fine, so I bought them. But I also showed the girls how badly my DHBH in PC is shedding - I washed and dried it for the first time yesterday and now its shedding like crazy!! They actually offered to take it back if I had the receipt but I love it so much, I said I would keep it - was just surprised because BEFORE I washed it, it was fine.

New product upload shows some...um, stuff:
http://tinyurl.com/a92c8vr

New stuff includes Root Chakra pant and the cardio kick bra looks interesting...but that Work it out Tank is just FUGLY!!

But I thought you might like the color combo on the leg warmers ;)

And there is a new upload on the US side!!

New stuff uploaded!!!

Anonymous said...

LMAO!! i agree with every single one - except the please me pullover - i have it in all three colors and i LOVE it sooo much!! super comfortable and flattering on me. but since it's 19 on wmtm - i might be in the minority. happy new year to you lla!

I agree 100% with your top ten list except for the calm SS tee. I have three and I wear them all the time over my CRB tank to yoga & barre. I am quite tall so maybe that helps carry off that style. I did get them on WMTM and probably wouldn't have paid full price. Otherwise you are spot on. Really enjoying your end of the year reviews. Love your blog, read it daily!!! :-)

No offence, but 90% of Lulu, was on my worst, unfashionable list, especially this past year. :( I spent a whooping $4,500 this past year, mostly from EBay and bought vintage Lulu.

hey LLA- stealth upload on the website and the US/CAD has lots of the stuff now that was on the AUS side!

One more snuck in before the end of the year -inkwell/light flare pump it up pant

Anonymous said...

Agree on all but the Zippy Run Tank. I do a TON of bench pressing and I love the shirt!!

LuluAddict said...

@ anon 1:15 pm- thanks for the heads up!

LuluAddict said...

@ disposable income girl - I mean they are (or were) fashionable when compared to other workout clothes, not street wear. Their street wear is often extremely plain/generic or just weird with poor sense of proportion. However, with all the yucky stripes and color blocking they have brought their athletic wear down to the originality level of big box sports store offerings.

LuluAddict said...

I can't believe I forgot the swim line. It was on my list, but my list had a TON of bad design candidates, unfortunately, and I overlooked it.

Ching-a-ling said...

lol, you are such a comic LLA....this post has me in stitches. Most definitely, no words needed indeed.

LuluAddict said...

The only reason I put the Calm SS Tee on the list is that I saw a ton on markdown and they are still lingering in the WMTM section. I've seen it look very cute on petite eds but the fact that it didn't sell sent it to the worst list. The same thing with the Please Me Pullover. How many of you who love it paid full price? It's not bad for $19 but it had to be $19 to move it.

Anonymous said...

@ anon 1:16PM - I thought the same thing when i saw the inkwell/light flare pump it up pant on the CAD side a few mins ago. Looked at it and immediately thought "good lord, this needs to be added to LLA's Worst of 2012 list right away"!

I actually bought the 3x a lady jacket on sale only because I wanted the long down coat underneath. Gave away the shell and the down coat underneath is perfect!

LuluAddict said...

The down jacket part of the 3X a lady was actually not bad. I'm not sure if that jacket ever made it to the sale rack in my local store. It's overkill for our area.

Anonymous said...

So funny! Thanks for the laugh!

Oh no! I ordered the full stride skirt from the WMTM yesterday for $29 and its on the list :( Should have researched this one a little more but for $29 I pulled the trigger!

Anonymous said...

What about the Peak to Poncho. Still listed full price in the jacket section and nary a single comment.

I love my Amuse Me pants (usually worn with the legs hiked up a bit and the top portion under my bust, so it has the look of a bubble dress) and my calm ss tee (got on MD). Apart from the obvious already discussed, a lot of my complaints have to do with a lack of cute, wearable prints. I hated most of the prints this year--- the beachy print, the spring floral print, and all the horrid stripes.

Sarah Kate said...

What about everything sheer?

Awesome list ha ha gave me chuckles to see those Amuse Me pants!! I agree the swimwear should get an honorable mention...I however do love the Calm SS, I have two of them and I teach Pilates in them all the time - So comfy and a great layering piece :) - I do agree with why it made the cut though. I never gave it a second look online - It's really something you had to try on and I believe I got it on sale in-store

I agree with your picks, LLA. I hated anything that was so called trendy.

There are too many items that are the worst. I hated anything that was aimed at teens or early twenty somethings, i.e. anything that came off as juvenile. Incidentally, the new mint moment, stripe laden upload does not give me any hope.

Discontinuing the Still Pant and the original Scuba were also the worst moves that LLL could make.

Oh, and finally, doing a big Boxing day upload and then, 3 days later, dropping some prices again. WORST customer treatment EVER!!

the black leotard thing....ew. Also, I thought the "cycling" line was a bust, esp the skirt thing. I also disliked the harem style swift pant...cant remember the name. Also dislike the wandering yogi halter...just looks too "sexy" for a yoga class.

Thanks for the laugh, LuluAddict!! Great summation!!!

Anon 11:30 here. LLA, to answer your question about the Please Me Pullover, I did not pay full price for it. I bought Polar Cream at $49, and your implication is right - I would NOT have paid $98 for it. $49 is pushing it, but $19 is a really good deal. I won't pay $49 for another one but would snatch the black one up of it dropped to $19.

Anonymous said...

3x a Lady is actually a great coat ar the wmtm price! I bought it and it is comfortable and warm.

Anonymous said...

I have another one for another thoughtless move, bad service:

I STILL cannot get the images out of my head of the MOUNTAIN of stuff they allowed people to buy/hoard.

And THEN they go create a special SW gear shipment to AUS/NZ (not judging you AUS/NZ), despite SW participants getting shafted on selection or access to items.

It was a good race though (and a very challenging first 11K, hills aplenty) and excellent post race food from the Bearfoot Bistro!

I'm with ya girl! I have one and I loooooove it! Im tall so it's cropped and adorable. I could see how it could be boxy and not flattering on a really short person though. I should buy another while it's on sale!
