A Couple of New Things

New headwrap thingy coming out of Australia. The text indicates it's meant for hot yoga. It said it's made out of swift material.

The new Love Red Response Shorts - cute!
I"m not sure if these are the Love Red Response shorts or not, but I don't care. Hello, Santa! ;-)

I'm not sure if I'm less excited about the do rag for yoga or the fact that Lululemon is copying Abercrombie's 15 year old ploy of nearly nude Santa.

Amen! ;-)

Whatever on headwrap for hot yoga. To each their own but no thanks, that would make me overheat! I wear a Lucky Luon headband to stem the flow of sweat.

This season has been a real bummer to me in terms of new product offerings especially in light of the holiday season! The only purchase I've made that had me excited was the DHBH pullover/hoodie. It's sad that my obsession with LLL is waning. I'm hoping the spring line will spark new energy.

What is going on with that Swiftly headwrap. OMG.
I think in cutting their production budget, they've got their designers' budgets. Who is creating this stuff? Stripes and bad cuts and color blocking and other icky things...ugh.

OT-i bought both dhbh in black and ghost colors. I love both but the black is more flattering on. should i keep the cream one? having trouble deciding. i love the cream color for winter but feel like a marshmallow in it.

My hot yoga class isn't on a pirate ship, so that bandana thingy wouldn't work for me.

I do like the picture of Santa, though!! ;)

I feel like the lack of Christmas releases and relly small uploads of inferior quality items just screams "we give up". Seriously, it feels to me like lululemon is saying "whatever, we don't care. We didn't prepare a holiday collection because our customers don't deserve it". Actually, it's like they're hoping this will cause people to go into LLL withdrawal and all go crazy buying in January when new products appear, which would be a good strategy if they hadn't ruined all their products by lowering the quality and jacking the prices unreasonably high. Speaking for myself, I am not going to bite and fall for this ploy.

I can't believe a company would deliberately tank a season and lose $. I'm thinking shipments have been held up with regards to Pink Shell items and the rest of the Laceoflage stuff (e.g., B&W CRB). I also think they made VERY bad decisions by not having wraps and other favored items and over-committing to cold weather run gear. It's really puzzling why they decided to do this. Like someone said in a post from last week, they don't seem to know their core customer very well.

I have my cream one on right now and never had a fount about keeping it. If you're practical you only really need one nut seeing the lulu trend of dwindling designs and quality, I kept both of mine Because I really like them. You can always sell it for so much more on eBay since it's a sold out item. If you have better things to use your money on, I'll let it go. I have hundreds of lulu and have a few only favorites. Yes, crazy love- hate relationship.

Anonymous said...

You should prob keep the black and sell the cream on ebay since the cream is sold out online. No sense keeping it if it makes you feel like a marshmallow.

Anonymous said...

Can you say DOO-RAG????
What were they thinking????

Anonymous said...

It's not that they don't know us (the core customer) it's that they're "training us" to want what they're putting out. Isn't that what Day said?

Anonymous said...

I think they made a mistake in moving to more technical clothing. Half of why a lot of people buy lll is because it does double duty and can be wore as street clothing as well as in the gym. That's the main reason I was willing to spend their outrageous prices, but now... not so much.

Anonymous said...

I agree that the black is more figure flattering. I ended up returning the Polar Cream for the same marshmallow reason. Love the black:)

Anonymous said...

thanks to pink peony 4 and anon1108. its true i dont need the cream if i dont feel good in it but i feel like i am hoarding because there arent many good items coming out from lulu these days. its super comfy, just that the cream is not as slimming as the black.

I just spent the last few hours going over all my 2012 posts in readiness to make up a Best Of/Worst of lists. Lulu make a lot fewer tanks/top than bottoms this year. It seems like they forgot about their Yoga customers totally for the last quarter of the year. Also, Chip Wilson left at the beginning of 2012. That would probably coincide with the planning for the fall 2012 line and where it's all gone to shit so fast and changed direction radically. Wilson had a real grasp of what his customer wanted and it's evident current management does not.

Anonymous said...

100% agree with the comment about forgetting about yoga customers, LLA. I am not a runner. I buy for yoga/barre class. Hardly anything appeals to me at LLL anymore.

OT - just thinking about the lulu return policy. got a mailer from Amex reminding me of return protection - if you use amex to pay for your lulu you have 90 days to return and amex will refund - much better than the 14 days lulu currently gives us. just an fyi...

Do you think there will be an upload on Monday night (usual upload) or Tuesday night (for boxing day), or both?
Also, do you think the ebb and flows will finally be uploaded?
I've been waiting for those suckers since October!
Thanks.

I think that Lulu's new management has based their strategies on the idea that Lulu is a trend, and there are always going to be label whores who will buy whatever they put out, regardless of quality. Lots of girls, especially, just want the logo...they don't care about the quality, they just want the attention and recognition for wearing the brand. As a result, the core customer base has been forgotten/ignored for now. Unfortunately, the core customer base is what makes a company successful and productive for the long term. "Fads" come and go, but people make lifelong commitments to brands and products that they truly love. IMO Lulu might be doing well now, but they will not last in the long term if they continue this current strategy.

That's awesome! Some people don't even make 30K a year :/

Totally, that is always how I justify paying a ton of money on Lulu. I think 75% of my pieces are worn as casual wear. I only wear speed shorts, Luxtreme crops, and CRB tanks to the gym.

I know what you mean... I used to be a Bebe fan looooong ago when most of the product were made in France. Then they started cheapening their products... Using synthetic liners in shoes instead of leather and producing more and more products in China. I stopped buying and yet the company still is thriving from women who just want to sport the "bebe" logo. Although I have to add, Bebe Sport is still made in the USA. I don't think LLL is going to go back to its old ways... Bebe never did and I refuse to go in to any Bebe store anymore.

Try on report

Ghost Herringbone WU's - Didn't think I'd like these til I tried them on. They are really beautiful and chic. The full length ones are more flattering than the crops IMO. I'm such a sucker for all things herringbone.

Coco Pique WU's - I love the coco pique but I would caution that this pattern is not particularly slimming - especially in the thigh area.

St. Moritz sweater - I'm bummed because I really wanted to like this but there are a couple of strikes against this sweater. It's def too short and it's boxy so not especially flattering. If it had been just a little longer and form fitting - this could have been a keeper.

St. Moritz top/turtleneck - really flattering, the neck's a bit snug but not a deal breaker. Especially flatters a fuller chest and small waist. Like both the black and blue - just wish the blue didn't have color blocking.

Mint Moment scarf - I like this scarf but don't love it. With black and mint stripes - it's not a piece you can just throw on with anything and run out the door. It requires a bit more styling. That said, the color's a breath of fresh air - makes me crave mint choc ice cream! The fabric is soft - it reminds me of the regular vinyasas - not the more recent light LUON ones.

Uba Hoodie Lux - apparently, these are selling like hot cakes in my area. It was hard to find my size actually. Don't think it looks like a garbage bag as other have said. I like the clean lines and shape of the jacket, but it's another one I'd file under - like it but don't love it. The black is def cuter than the polar cream.

Looking forward to seeing the items they put out after xmas.

@ 11:21 AM,"training" us, my foot. Why doesn't LLL and CDay listen for a change? Just because they make it, does not mean I will buy it. Good point above, by Malia, mentioning label ho's - I am not one of those!

Technical focus is great, yes, I want that. I don't wear LLL as casual wear (a to-from pant or certain jackets aside). I'm VERY active: run, yoga, weight train. They have made some great stuff for running and yoga; in the past I have been very pleased. They won me over from all the other athletic gear I used to wear! I also love items like the Dance Studio Jacket, Cuddle Up Jacket, traditional Scuba (not the new Stretch), Still Pant (yes, eliminated and said to be coming back in one of their conference calls), to name a few. In the last half of this year, their merchandise generally sucks (or it is WAY overpriced). So much of it is hideous!

My other issue is that they continue to NOT offer clothes in average, tall and petite. Some items (pants, tops, jackets), need to be specifically tailored to each of those frames. I'm average height (5'4") and usually for tops, tanks, jackets, crops and pants I'm good. Sometimes hemming on certain pants is necessary, but the item still looks good on me overall. However, sometimes they design a pant for someone tall (no offense to the tall!) and the way everything else falls (waist, seams, pockets, details) does not work on someone of average height. An item can look ridiculous and hemming does not solve the problem! I've read enough reviews to know that each of the petite, average, and tall groups all have specific needs and keep suggesting/asking. LLL continues to IGNORE this feedback, where other luxe brands listen and give customers exactly what they need. Debate away about the "luxe" label, but $100 for crops, pants etc., $100+ and lately $200+ for jackets is a certain level. If a brand is going to price to that level, it had better deliver the goods specific to every petite, average, and tall consumer that is willing to pay those prices.

The horror stories and fights with customer service are incredible to me (I work for a customer service oriented company). It's really actually unheard of these days. I see, however, that maybe recently they "get it" and are trying to turn the corner on this.

Sadly, with this ADD type of design, ugliness, and quality issues, LLL is being run into the ground.

They can carry on and gain this new customer they're so eager to have. They'll lose the loyal customers. What they're also clueless about is that it is much wiser to bank on a loyal customer than try to get some fickle new ones.

Meanwhile- back on the ranch. . . ! =D
It got super chilly tonight here in sunny Florida and I used my Brisk Run Neck Warmer - and turned it into a beanie. It is FANTASTIC. My favorite purchase this season. I was FREEEEEEZING waiting for race start and it kept my neck toasty warm - then as the run began I just pulled it off over my head until it was mid forehead and flipped the remainder forward and it was magically transformed into a fab black beanie that wasn't too hot or loose. I tried to pull forward up to keep on head and neck but felt like an out of water scuba diver lol.. .
I love the rulu fabric. =)
- Wish I got the black swan rasp glo in this. nice light accessory. =)
I also wore black wunder under crops which I normally always wear for workouts - but for some reason during this race I had to keep hiking these up and up and was thinking man I need a waist tie!! Maybe time to buy a different pair of running pants. I just don't care for the ultra thin feeling of the other lulu running capris i've gotten in the past. maybe runder unders ? ok see ya!

Yeh i agree w/ luluAddict: Ms. Day seems to coincide w/ things tanking there at lulu. Maybe ole chippy will start a new company and hire all the good designers that don't seem to be there anymore? Just a thought? Maybe she's a mole from nike paid to make lulu fail? Jeeze who knows these days w/ all the mergers and aquisitions taking place, then nike steps in to buy up lulu. Wouldn't that be a hoot if that happened!

@anon 5:27 - i *love* my zella live in leggings! a word of caution though - only get the solid black or the space dye ones. the reversible colored ones felt WAY different - thick and polyestery with no support. the black and space dye ones feel more like luon - not super thick luon, but not the thin sheer stuff either. they feel supportive, soft, and smooth without being too thick. in fact, the feel of them is nearly identical to the feel of the silverescent luon WU. i'm wearing my zella live-in leggings right now - for basic black, i'll take the $54 zella leggings over WU any day.

Sorry that this is completely off topic but Google is failing me tonight. I've read that Lulu has a Boxing Day sale - do you know if that is just in Canada or in the USA as well? And if it will be taking place Boxing Day 2012?

Sheesh- That's a horrible lot of Disposable money to spend on clothes for yourself... Maybe you could use that $ for something that brings you joy instead. Or give it to me. It would certainly make my family very happy!

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't mind at all if their new strategy of "only making technical gear", and thinning out their variety of cotton pieces also meant that those technical pieces were gorgeous and well made (like they were circa 2-3 years ago). I am someone who rarely wears lululemon in my "everyday life", as I just don't like wearing athletic clothes casually, other than to/from yoga/class/gym (but each to her own), so I'm down with that, but that said, I really did miss the amazing to/from pieces that just weren't there this year.

If they're going to focus on the technical, they need to actually focus on them. This season was a piss poor job of doing it. For it being the first season they "focused on technical over apres", their technical lines -especially run- were the least attractive/luxury I've seen from them probably ever. The running luon pieces looked so bargain basement cheap this year- and those are usually some of their best pieces each year.

It's too bad

No need to state over and over and over again how much money you spend on Lulu. It's sickening, actually. I think you're covered with 'disp income.' We get it.

I think Lulu has just hit the perfect storm of overdesign (I think we all agree the more basic items are our favs), and too much cost cutting all at once. Maybe they took too much direction from the Lab where wacky stuff sells like crazy, but only to Vancouver tourists. Can't scale that up globally.

Disp. Income Girl: It seems that every post of your's either mentions the $30K you spend on Lululemon annually, Burberry scarves, or Frye boots -- ad nauseam. I think I speak for most readers when I say that it's starting to get really OLD. Remember, this a Lululemon blog where we are talking about Lululemon products. No one cares about how much money you have.

Just googled the cuddle up and black swan colour came up! Wow that looks amazing and warm and I'm sad nothing like that came out this winter :( I'd buy one in every colour :( WHY is lulu trying to be Nike?? Enough running jackets- bring out the winter clothing already! Sigh.

Anonymous said...

@sophia - ditto! I love my Zella leggings! I was going to buy another pair of black WU and relized on the way to the store what a waste of money it was! The only complaint I have with the Zella is that they aren't super long like the WU - I'm almost 6 feet and like having the extra length. Other than that though, they are perfect! Also, the sales lady at Nordstrom told me they are made in the same factories :) saves you $30!

We're all on here because we have disposable income...we're buying lots of Lulu with it. You're not unique in that regard. I wasn't going to write this b/c really, what's the point, but I stupidly can't resist. There is a reason that modesty is becoming. There are lots of people who spend huge amounts on this board. Again, you're not special. And if you did actually spend that kind of $ at Lulu, I sure hope you're donating a large sum of money to charity as well and saving money for retirement. That's my rant.

@anon December 21, 2012 11:21 AM

Day's comment about trying to "train" us to want whatever they're selling really hit me. Her condescending attitude really is exemplified in the way that they introduced a lot of their "redesigned" product line. Instead of being up front about the changes, they were just slipped in as a sort of bait and switch routine. I'm not against change, but the customer should have been informed, especially for major redesigns like the scuba stretch and not stuck returning things that were no longer as described on the website.

As Malia mentioned above, Lulu really seems to be catering to the "label-hos". The reviews for many products show this trend. Most of the positive reviews acknowledge the shorter fit, thinner fabric, and lack of special features, yet the customers seem to have no problem paying the same price as they paid for the original premium product. This type of buyer is the most lucrative for the company because they are willing to accept average quality for the same price as a premium quality garment.

Since I have talked so much about the new scuba, I have to say that the redesigned sweatshirt isn't a bad product... If its price reflected its status as a lighter, no-frill jacket (in the $50 - $70 range), I'd probably buy it. I refuse to buy it at full-price though, as I dislike that Lulu thinks we're a bunch of chumps who will pay top dollar for average quality clothes simply because of their label.

I kept the cream and returned the black - on me the black was boring whereas I felt prettier in the cream for me skin. I would have liked to have sized down to a six as the eight in the torso is just a tad too boxy. But too tight in the arms in the six - and its just too cozy and luxurious to pass up so size 8 it is!

Zella question for the 6ft anon: Where do the pants hit you? I'm 5'9 with 31" inseam (measured to bottom of ankle) and have assumed that they'd be too short. When you say that you miss the extra length, do you mean that they hit you like crops or are they an acceptable length for pants?

sophia said...

zella leggings ARE shorter than WU. i'm 5"5", wear a 6 in WU and a Small in zella and they only bunch just a little at the ankles. my sister is 5'9", medium in zella, and they fit her legs pretty perfectly. so if you are among the vertically blessed as well as thin, the zella leggings might be too short. otherwise, LOVE.

for Amex return - when the merchant won't take an item back, as long as you paid with amex you work directly with amex - there is a claim form to fill out the item must be in new/unworn condition with label attached - i think this is great b/c lulu's return policy of 14 days is a little KRAY KRAY!!

So she has a ton of cash, no need to rip her to shreds ladies. I would love to have more disposable income, but true one should save for later & donate to charity and may we all have a wee bit left to fill our Lulu addiction. We've all built our little "Lulu treasure chests"...mines been years and years in the making. They hit me right at the ankle - definitely not crops. I wear a 6 in WU and a Small in Zella. The thing that I like about the WU is the ability to pull the extra fabric over my heel and halfway up my foot when it's a little chilly out.

I was actually at Nordstrom Rack today and they had the Zella leggings for $24.97 - only in XS or XL, but still! :) hope that helps!

That's fine and dandy but is it really necessary for her to keep re-iterating in virtually every post? I think that is what is getting to everyone. A lot of the time it doesn't add anything to the discussion at hand and comes off as just bragging. It's always a variation of "I spend 30 grand at Lulu but they're coming out with crap now so I'm buying Burberry and Fryes instead."

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the Zella advice! I'm also a 6 in WU, and glad to hear that the small is long enough :).

Yeah, I think the constant "disposable income girl" sign off + the ongoing mention of $ spent just got to be too much. Whether or not she means it this way, it DOES come across as tasteless.
Many of us also spend a lot of money on discretionary purchases, but don't feel the need to advertise.

To Minda- no headbands have ever stayed on my head without bobby pins. I have several lululemon no slip headbands and some of the ribbon-looking ones that adjust in the back (forget what they're called), and I always pin 4 bobby pins in the back, otherwise they all slip off my head. I suppose they would probably stay if I put them on 80's style though :)

Add me to the list of folks who are disappointed in not seeing a Cuddle Up this year. I was late to the lulu game and bought my ghost CU on markdown in the Queenstown store this past August. It is - by far - my favorite, cozy, bum around the house jacket. I was hoping for another one or two. I did get a chance to score a current scuba this summer (from the first batch with the good zipper) and am very pleased. I should've bought that portapottie one when I had the chance though.

I do appreciate the breadth of technical gear, but I am also missing the core items that I started to create a collection of this year. Also, the quality ...Was very saddened to see that my beaming blue CRB is not reversible, for one. The beaming blue pique U-turn that I lusted after and finally bought? Returned. It's a full one inch shorter in the arms and length - in the same size 6 as my clarity yellow.

On another note, I'll be trying out the function of the bold in the cold pants later today. Heavy snow, 20 mph winds and a windchill of 10F on the mountain today. Hopefully, they'll stand up to the challenge.

Anonymous said...

Keep your chin up disposable income girl. I enjoy reading your comments, along with everyone else's comments - except the negative hurtful remarks. Anyone who buys that much LLL has experience with the products that is useful for us all.

More important is that we are all using our athletic clothing from LLL and else where and keeping active and healthy. I am so grateful to be healthy enough to run (just finished a 10k on the mountain trails slogging through the snow; ran about as fast as a turtle with three legs) - fully decked in my LLL and with CW-X tights.

Anonymous said...

Merry Christmas everyone! peace, joy, and love.

Yeah her input would be helpful, but she chooses to talk other designer goods and how much money she spends instead of the actual LLL products.

Did you see her comment above? No, she doesn't "get it".

Ganging up on her is a form of bullying. Making someone feel unwelcome or disliked is a form of bullying.
Perhaps our words can be kinder.Perhaps, disposable income girl's sign-off could have been said a little differently. Anyways, this is all online so things can be said in a manner that wasn't meant to be originally.
I agree with anon 11:23 though. Let's keep this blog about LLL and alternative active wear clothing or similar to what people wish LLL was making right now.
Anyways, this is getting out of hand.

Oh thank you for the bobby pins tip for the headbands! I will try that =D
I had some long side swept bangs cut and they are cute!! - But, really annoying when I workout, which is daily.

To those interested in coco pique! - I've been getting tons of compliments on these crops! I also really love wearing them. They have a much thicker look than feel which is fine for me! I feel confident in full Core Fit workouts (similar to cross fit but without bleeding palms LOL)
Wu Crops in black, coco pique, or wee are from space black are my GO TO crops for working out and not feeling self conscious.
I pair with Nike long running sports bra and a Black lulu CRB. I like these tanks because they are longer in length and I don't feel over exposed in any way while lunging squatting dive bombing jump roping running etc!

SO- TL;DR? (too long didn't read) lol.
For a perfect GO TO outfit that you don't have to worry about get black Wunder Under Crops, Black Cool Racer Back and wear with fav sports bra, and sneakers!
I wear this outfit like a uniform, I don't feel like I have to compete with anyone on the style meter because black is awesome and always IN. - I am comfortably cool and the fit is flattering to pretty much any body type.
- okay merry christmas! my TL:DR was too long to read too HAH!
