Laurent Potdevin New Lulu CEO

Laurent Potdevin, lately of Toms, Burton, and LVMH is the new CEO of lululemon. In addition, Chip Wilson is stepping down as non-executive Chairman of the Board of directors. From my 30 seconds of googling his background, Potdevin seems like a good choice. I guess time will tell.

Update - from a Globe and Mail article about the appointment,

"Mr. Potdevin, who most recently was president of Toms Shoes, said he will build on his background in expanding companies globally. He said he learned early on that product quality is of key importance, which is a focus he’ll bring to Lululemon." [emphasis mine]

Music to our ears, Mr. Potdevin!

Update #2 - Business Insider actually likes the hire (and they've been hating on lululemon pretty hard for months now) and quote as one reason:

"Lululemon fans approve. Prominent blogger LuluAddict writes on her blog that Potdevin seems like a good hire. This is a huge deal because of Lululemon's massive online fan base, which has deteriorated somewhat in light of recent issues."

I'm sure it's reassuring to Wall Street and Potdevin that I've given my approval, lol. (Oh, and by the way Business Insider, check my page view stats, the online fan base is as strong as ever. We're choosey about what we buy but Lulu has been having a pretty good fall and holiday season so far.)

Update #3 - Another video:

I've had the opportunity to work with Laurent in the past and can honestly say he is a great choice with is management style and passion for people.

Well, that is good to hear. I like that his background is in the apparel industry.

Excited to see someone new!! I think he will open some doors for Lululemon. Hopes of him bringing back some more of the quality to the brand along with the class that I have been craving for a while.

Thanks for the update. Only time will tell of course but sounds like a promising choice. He's worked for a number of top quality brands, and if anything can be said, will not want to compromise his track record. Obviously he's charged with growth/expansion but likely takes quality to heart. Surely knows that loyalty to a brand is tied to exceptional quality and design. Women know what they want and are happy to provide feedback. Probably also recognizes that the men's line can be expanded and capitalized upon.

P.S. Glad Wilson is stepping down. Great initial vision in creating the brand, however, he's put his foot in his mouth so many times to cause offense; is just such an embarrassment to the brand now.

This seems like good news. Interested to see what happens.

OT- Is anyone else having trouble with the "Find An Old Post - Search the blog" function on the right hand side of the screen. I use it all the time to search LLA's great archives, especially when buying stuff second hand. Now, nothing happens when I click search (usually search results are displayed at the top of the page). Any suggestions? Thanks.

I think Wilson stepping down is a good move, too, pr-wise. He really put his foot in it with that interview and then the company compounded it by releasing that poorly edited, incomprehensible "apology" non-apology video that made him look even worse. I think his vision is important since the man created the company, really gave women what they wanted in terms of athletic wear (great fit, features, and style), and grew it to what it has become but he is better off staying behind the scenes.

Just received my new YogaSmoga leggings (grey color). They are SHEER! I wouldn't even wear them around the house. They are definitely going back!!!!

yep, search button is not working for some odd. reason.
I am hoping that good things come with the new CEO, and yes it's good news that chip is going to be behind the scenes.

Thanks for keeping us up to date.

Funny enough, I used to work with him when I was a writer for eLuxury.com (part of LVMH) years ago. I didn't know him personally but I remember all the techies who wrote code for the site called him "Low Rent" (play on "Laurent") - childish of me to share but it brought back a chuckle from the days at my former job! :)

well hopefully he will put an end to all the quality shortcuts the live simply 2 jacket is one such victim I have its predessesor and ordered the new one it was horrible not the same at all!! not the two colorblocked ones those looked good the next batch I got the solid gray the lining in the hood was cheepy and the jacket itself was thin thin thin and it was cut boxy like strange not at all like my live simply 1. anyhow I sure hope that this guy is on top of quality issues and style issues as well he would be wise to read this blog for a start ;)

Laurent is such an amazing guy! I have nothing but wonderful things to say about him. I've worked with him in the past and Lulu got a good one. Congrats LP!

Lululemon=Smart. Old CEO=jerk,woman-insulter,overall bad for female business. New CEO=good looking, sexy French voice, good for female business!! :) Simple fix!

I have found same search issue with other blogs for about 2 weeks, not just this one. I was thinking it was my computer but guess not.

@ anon 10:11 am - Weird. I can use the search function just fine. I am on a desktop computer, though.

@ 10:00 am- yes, the French accent is pretty attractive and he comes across as charming in the videos. I am seeing phrases like "puddles of goo," "swoon," and "mini crush" on my lulu Facebook boards regarding the personal aspects of the new CEO. ;-)

@ 10am I completely agree.

well, if he worked for Toms, does that mean he has some sort of Ethics? that's a plus as far as i'm concerned.

that's too funny I was thinking that he was quite handsome too ;)

That's so funny that they mentioned your blog in the article. I think Mr. Potdevin should call you directly, and you can just tell him what needs to be improved. Seriously, you hear everybody's feedback, you're one of their best customers and know the product like the back of your hand. What could be better!! I agree with the other posts above, he's quite a handsome fellow - and I love the accent!

My initial impression of M. Potdevin is very good ( plus he sounds like me, hehehe). Not only is he nice to look at, but I googled his professional past, and it looks like he has a chance to be an excellent fit with Lululemon (and, consequently, us, his potential customer base). I am not crying for Chip,s and Day,s departure. One got stale and the other one took the brand perilously close to the edge of no return. Time for new blood.

Is he Canadian? handsome man. the music in that first video was insanely distracting me from focusing on what he was saying.
